Pain Department

The Pain Department of the First Medical Center was established in 2020. Its predecessor was the Pain Clinic of the People's Liberation Army General Hospital opened in 1997, which was one of the earliest pain clinics in China. The department has become a comprehensive professional pain diagnosis and treatment center that integrates medical treatment, teaching, scientific research, health care, and rehabilitation, and undertakes central health care tasks. It is also the chairman unit of the China Life Care Association. There are currently 3 experts with senior professional titles and 25 professional and technical personnel. Currently, there are subspecialties such as cancer pain, head and facial pain, spinal pain, and neuropathic pain. It was the first to develop internationally advanced pain treatment technologies such as spinal cord electrical stimulation, intrathecal morphine pump implantation, 3D printing navigation, CT and ultrasound-guided minimally invasive interventional therapy in China. The core diseases for diagnosis and treatment include chronic primary pain, cancer pain, chronic post-traumatic pain and post-operative pain, chronic neuropathic pain, chronic headache and orofacial pain, chronic visceral pain, and chronic musculoskeletal pain.
