Department of Laser Medicine The Department of Laser Medicine of the First Medical Center was founded in 1991. It is a professional laser medicine team led by Professor Gu Ying, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, which integrates military service, medical treatment, health care, teaching and scientific research. It is also one of the first units in the country to train masters, doctoral and postdoctoral students in laser medicine. There are currently 3 higher vocational experts, 5 professional and technical personnel, and 1 assistant researcher. The department has extensively carried out three major laser treatment technologies: targeted photodynamic therapy, intense laser therapy (minimally invasive laser surgery) and weak laser therapy (non-invasive phototherapy). It is the first innovator of vascular-targeted photodynamic therapy and has an internationally leading level; tumor-targeted photodynamic therapy for tumors, microbial-targeted photodynamic therapy for HPV infection, Q-switched laser therapy for pigmentary diseases, and high-intensity laser therapy for vascular diseases are all at the domestic leading or advanced level. In the past five years, it has undertaken more than 17 national, military and Beijing key and major research projects, with a cumulative funding of more than 30 million yuan. It has won one first-class and one second-class Hainan Provincial Scientific and Technological Progress Award, and has been approved for 12 patents.
