Hepatobiliary Department
Chinese People's Liberation Army General Hospital (301 Hospital)
Department of Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery The Department of Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery is a "domestic leading, world-class" hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery specialty created by the People's Liberation Army General Hospital under the new establishment system. It was established on April 30, 2020 and went into operation on June 30. It is a prestigious hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery center that integrates hepatobiliary and pancreatic trauma treatment, diagnosis and treatment of difficult and critical diseases, clinical scientific and technological innovation, and training of high-level military and civilian personnel. It now has nearly 280 professional and technical personnel, 13 graduate tutors, 59 staff with senior medical and scientific research titles, and an annual operation volume of more than 8,500. The subspecialty has a novel structure and strong strength. The center has 2 wards for liver tumor surgery, 2 wards for pancreatic tumor surgery, 2 wards for biliary tumor surgery and trauma surgery, 1 ward for hepatobiliary and pancreatic critical care medicine, and a day ward for conversion therapy of hepatobiliary and pancreatic tumors. There are a total of 4 wards of hepatobiliary surgery stationed in the 4th, 6th, 7th and 8th centers. The department has a strong development trend. Minimally invasive surgery, especially robotic surgery, is the core technical feature of the department. There are a total of 5 robotic surgical systems for clinical use. The annual number of robotic hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgeries exceeds 1,000, ranking first in the world.Discipline Features Biliary tract Surgery Under the guidance of Academician Huang Zhiqiang, the father of biliary surgery in my country, our hospital established an early theoretical and technical system for the surgical treatment of biliary tract diseases. The surgical treatment of complex biliary tract diseases has always been at the leading international level. In 2000, the research results on the pathogenesis and treatment of hepatolithiasis led by Academician Huang Zhiqiang won the first prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award. Under the leadership of Director Liu Rong, the department routinely performs complex core surgeries in biliary tract surgery such as radical resection of cholangiocarcinoma, radical resection of gallbladder cancer, and radical resection of hilar cholangiocarcinoma. It was the first to report laparoscopic radical resection of hilar cholangiocarcinoma in the world, using retrograde resection to increase the surgical resection rate of hilar cholangiocarcinoma to over 70%. The Department of Liver Surgery routinely performs a series of highly difficult radical liver resection surgeries such as anatomical segmental resection, middle lobe resection, trilobal resection, combined multi-segment resection, and isolated liver resection. Vigorously develop minimally invasive liver resection, and the first laparoscopic left hemihepatectomy was successfully performed in 2002. Over the past ten years, a series of "first cases" have been completed, establishing a new laparoscopic anatomical liver resection technology system for the school. In 2014, the hepatobiliary and pancreatic laparoscopic surgery technology and application led by Professor Liu Rong won the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award. The school has formulated personalized conversion therapy plans for patients with intermediate and advanced liver cancer. After conversion therapy, 33% of patients received radical surgery, which has become a new medical feature of the school. Pancreatic Surgery: All types of difficult and complex pancreatic surgeries are routinely performed, and its technical level is internationally leading. At the same time, the department has carried out a lot of innovation and exploration in pancreatic surgery. After vigorously developing robotic pancreatic surgery, Director Liu Rong combined regional anatomical characteristics to create LR pancreatoduodenectomy through the LR hole approach, "Rong style" mid-pancreatic resection combined with pancreatic duct bridge repair and other new surgical techniques, which have been widely promoted and used at home and abroad. The Department of Transplantation Surgery has developed cutting-edge technologies such as adult-to-adult living donor liver transplantation, split liver transplantation, emergency auxiliary living donor liver transplantation, and living donor dual-donor liver transplantation, reaching world-class levels and achieving fruitful academic results. A total of 1,119 cases of liver transplantation/138 cases of living donor liver transplantation/128 cases of severe liver failure transplantation have been completed. Research on innovative clinical applications of key liver transplant technologies, as well as liver transplant surgery and corresponding basic research, won the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award. First Prize for Military Medical Achievement.Minimally invasive and robotic surgery Minimally invasive surgery, especially robotic surgery, is the core technical feature of the department. Entering the second decade of the 21st century, with the development of intelligent medicine, complete hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgical robotic technology has been gradually established, and the "Army Robotic Surgery Training Base" and "International Da Vinci Robotic Surgery Training Base" have been established. In 2018, Professor Liu Rong took the lead in writing and publishing international guidelines such as the "International consensus statement on robotic pancreatic surgery" and "International consensus statement on robotic hepatectomy surgery". Robotic technology is leading the development of international minimally invasive surgery.
