After nearly 60 years and three generations of hard work, the Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Tianjin University of Chinese Medicine, through inheriting the essence, keeping integrity and innovation, and focusing on the three main development lines of "safety, stability, integrity; service, technology, cost; disciplines, talents, and characteristics", has been built into a unique Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine integrating clinical, scientific research, teaching, exchange and health care, with strong traditional Chinese medicine characteristics, advanced modern diagnosis and treatment technology, first-class discipline construction, reasonable talent echelon, and unique combination of traditional Chinese and Western medicine. The department is currently a national key clinical specialty (TCM pulmonary disease), a regional TCM (specialty) diagnosis and treatment center for the Pulmonary Disease Department of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, a national clinical collaboration pilot project unit of Chinese and Western medicine for major difficult diseases (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), a founding unit of the China Respiratory Specialty Consortium Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine Collaboration Group, a third-level outstanding unit of PCCM standardization construction, a Tianjin key specialty (TCM pulmonology), a Tianjin Traditional Chinese Medicine advantageous specialty, and a leading unit of the Tianjin Respiratory Alliance for Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine;It has the National Level III Laboratory of Respiratory Function, the National Key Laboratory of Traditional Chinese Medicine for Prevention and Treatment of Infectious Diseases, the Tianjin Institute of Respiratory Diseases, and the Tianjin Key Laboratory of Pulmonary Disease Treatment. It is a national continuing education base for the dominant disciplines of traditional Chinese medicine, a training base for general practitioners and residents in Tianjin, and a training base for traditional Chinese medicine and nursing (respiratory diseases) in Tianjin. It is also a branch center for diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary nodules in Tianjin of the China Lung Cancer Prevention Alliance and a member of the China Cough Alliance. The specialty has been rated as the "Best Clinical Specialty in Chinese Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospitals" for three consecutive years.
