The Department of Encephalopathy and Acupuncture of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Tianjin University of Chinese Medicine was founded in 1964. After more than 50 years of continuous pioneering and enterprising efforts by generations of TCM encephalopathy experts, it has now become a comprehensive TCM encephalopathy diagnosis and treatment center - the Encephalopathy Acupuncture Center - with unique wards, critical wards, and combined brain surgery, emergency, rehabilitation, and treatment. The Encephalopathy Acupuncture Center has distinctive characteristics of traditional Chinese medicine and obvious advantages of integrating traditional Chinese and Western medicine. It has become the largest TCM encephalopathy medical treatment, teaching and scientific research center in northern Tianjin. It is currently a key specialty of Traditional Chinese Medicine for Encephalopathy of the Ministry of Health, a key specialty of Traditional Chinese Medicine for Encephalopathy of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, a key discipline of Traditional Chinese Medicine Internal Medicine (Encephalopathy Direction) of the Ministry of Education, and a “top priority” key discipline of Tianjin. It is also an affiliated unit of the Tianjin Neurology Professional Committee of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, the Encephalopathy Professional Committee of the Tianjin Society of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and the Clinical Professional Committee of the Tianjin Acupuncture Society, and is a national model stroke center.
