Department of Endocrinology (Geriatric Diseases), the Second Affiliated Hospital of Tianjin University of Chinese Medicine, Introduction The Department of Geriatrics (Endocrinology), the predecessor of the Department of Geriatrics (Endocrinology) of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Tianjin University of Chinese Medicine, was established in 1991. It currently has 36 beds and 4 outpatient clinics. There are more than 30 medical staff, including 2 master's tutors, 1 chief physician, 8 deputy chief physicians, 9 attending physicians, 3 doctors, and 13 master's students. It has become a comprehensive base integrating diagnosis, research, and teaching. He presided over bureau-level projects and a number of scientific research projects within the institute, and won the Science and Technology Progress Award. In December 2022, our department was rated as one of the first batch of standardized geriatric care wards in Tianjin. Our department has always regarded diabetes education as a key content, and has established a diabetes patient club to provide patients with a classroom to understand and understand the disease, and provides free diabetes education materials, telephone consultation and other services; specialists and responsible nurses provide diabetes education to patients at any time, forming a three-point and one-line management model of medical staff - diabetic patients - family members, which is welcomed by the majority of patients.Scope of diagnosis and treatment: The outpatient clinics and wards of the Department of Geriatrics (Endocrinology) have advanced equipment and a superior environment. The department adheres to the consistent idea of integrating traditional Chinese and Western medicine, highlights the characteristics of traditional Chinese medicine, and focuses on giving full play to the advantages of traditional Chinese medicine. The scope of diagnosis and treatment covers common endocrine diseases, frequently-occurring diseases, and difficult and complicated diseases, as follows: 1. Diabetes (diabetes): diabetes and acute and chronic complications of diabetes (such as diabetic ketoacidosis, diabetic hyperglycemia and hyperosmolar state, diabetic nephropathy, diabetic eye disease, diabetic peripheral neuropathy, etc.); 2. Thyroid diseases: hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, thyroiditis, thyroid nodules, etc.; 3. Metabolic bone diseases: osteoporosis, etc.; 4. Gout and hyperuricemia; 5. Hyperlipidemia, obesity, etc.; 6. Pituitary diseases, adrenal gland diseases. Featured technologies 1. Insulin pump: Using an insulin pump to continuously infuse subcutaneous insulin to strengthen treatment, the patient's blood sugar can quickly reach the standard. The insulin pump is controlled by artificial intelligence and uses an adjustable pulse subcutaneous infusion method to simulate basal insulin secretion in the body. Fundus camera: Compared with the method of examining fundus lesions using an ophthalmoscope, a fundus camera has the advantages of being intuitive, accurate, and easy to use. The non-mydriatic fundus camera currently used in our department can not only help patients quickly complete eye examinations, but also avoid the pain and inconvenience caused by drug application, making it the first choice for diabetic retinopathy screening. 4. Acupoint injection: Acupoint injection treats diabetic peripheral neuropathy. Suitable for symptoms of diabetic peripheral neuropathy: pain and abnormal sensation in the extremities, such as burning sensation, numbness, coldness, cotton feeling in the feet, etc. 5. Traditional Chinese medicine foot bath, fumigation, medicinal penetration, infrared ray, etc. can be used to treat diabetic peripheral neuropathy.
