Pathology Department

Since 2008, the Pathology Department of Tianjin First Central Hospital has been merged from the original otolaryngology and head and neck surgical pathology room, obstetrics and gynecology pathology room, surgical pathology room, and transplantation pathology room into an independent pathology department. The Pathology Department currently has 24 staff members. There are 14 doctors and 10 technicians, and the team is gradually expanding. The current professional title composition is 3 senior, 5 deputy senior, 6 intermediate, and 10 junior. The educational composition consists of 7 doctoral students, 8 master’s students, and 9 bachelor’s students. Every year, more than 20,000 clinical cases are completed, more than 2,000 cases of cytology, more than 8,000 cases of TCT, more than 8,500 cases of DNA ploidy analysis, more than 1,400 cases of transplant pathology, more than 400 cases of bone marrow biopsy, and more than 1,800 cases of intraoperative freezing. The pathology department has advanced equipment, various businesses are widely carried out, and the technical means are advanced. The business carried out includes: routine HE staining, intraoperative frozen pathology diagnosis, rapid paraffin section staining, bone marrow biopsy, liver puncture, kidney puncture, thyroid, lymph node biopsy, cytology wax block, etc. At the same time, special staining, immunohistochemistry staining, immunofluorescence, in situ hybridization and other technologies are widely used.At the same time, gastrointestinal tumor drug resistance testing, breast cancer Her-2 gene testing, and common malignant tumor treatment-related protein testing are carried out to provide reliable basis for effective clinical treatment. While completing the pathology business of our hospital, we have established good collaborative relationships with many hospitals and institutions, providing support and assistance for the pathology business of many hospitals, and playing an important role in frozen diagnosis and difficult pathological diagnosis. With the completion of the new Shuixi campus, the number of beds is 3,200-3,500. With the development and growth of the hospital, the business of the pathology department has increased significantly. While completing various routine services, in order to meet the needs of precision medicine, molecular diagnostic methods such as PCR, FISH, and NGS will be gradually implemented to create a first-class pathology department in the country. Zhang Mingfang, the current head of the Department of Pathology, is a chief physician, professor, doctoral supervisor, and leader of the Department of Pathology. He has rich experience in clinical diagnosis and has a high reputation in the pathology community. He is outstanding in the pathological diagnosis of obstetrics and gynecology, gastroenterology, and respiratory diseases.Scientific research is mainly engaged in the study of the pathogenesis and prevention of estrogen-related diseases, involving bone metabolism, osteoporosis, endometrium, prostate and other diseases. He has participated in many national, provincial and ministerial level projects, edited 3 books, trained more than 10 graduate students, and published more than 100 papers. Under the leadership of Professor Zhang Mingfang, the business level of the Department of Pathology has been significantly improved, a strict intra-department consultation system has been established, and the initial examination, follow-up examination, and intra-department consultation processes have been improved, which has increased diagnostic accuracy, improved service quality, reduced medical risks, and laid a solid foundation for clinical practice. At the same time, an intra-department learning system is established to promote academic exchanges among doctors through fixed-time weekly business theory learning, familiarize themselves with new developments in medical treatment and scientific research, and promote the progress of medical treatment and scientific research.
