Critical Care Medicine Department
Tianjin First Central Hospital
The Department of Critical Care Medicine of Tianjin First Central Hospital was founded by Wang Jinda (1925.5-2008.4, chief physician and professor of Tianjin First Central Hospital, the pioneer and founder of critical care emergency medicine in China, and former director of the Tianjin Institute of Emergency Medicine and the world’s leading critical care physician). The first emergency medicine diagnosis and treatment institution in my country - the Acute Triple Failure (Heart, Lung, Kidney) Rescue Research Laboratory of Tianjin First Central Hospital - was established in August 1974 by emergency experts such as the Federation of Emergency Medicine Societies and representatives of the Chinese Emergency Medicine Organization. It is also an enhanced care unit. The department established the Institute of Emergency Medicine in 1983, which had advanced scientific research and clinical equipment at that time. In 1989, two national-level professional magazines, "Chinese Journal of Critical Care and Emergency Medicine" and "Chinese Journal of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Emergency Medicine", were founded. In 1994, it was approved by the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine as a national emergency diagnosis and treatment center for integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine. In 1997, the "Key Laboratory of Critical Care and Emergency Medicine of the Ministry of Health" was established with the approval of the Ministry of Health. After nearly 30 years of development, the department has now become a critical care medicine diagnosis and treatment center that integrates "medicine, teaching, and research" such as a national key clinical specialty, a Tianjin key clinical discipline (specialty), a clinical drug trial base, a national standardized training base for critical care medicine specialists, and a standardized training base for critical care medicine residents. In clinical diagnosis and treatment, the treatment of patients with sepsis and multiple organ dysfunction syndrome using integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine methods has reached an advanced level for many years. The proposed theory of "bacteria and virus combined treatment" for infectious multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (won the first prize of Tianjin Science and Technology Progress Award) and the "four syndromes and four methods" treatment principle of integrating traditional Chinese and Western medicine for sepsis and multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (won the third prize of Tianjin Science and Technology Progress Award) are still of guiding significance and are generally recognized and accepted by peers. Currently, the Department of Critical Care Medicine has 57 beds and 4 wards, including 30 intensive care beds (3 wards) and 27 transitional beds (1 ward). It treats more than 1,600 critically ill patients every year, with a rescue success rate of over 90%. It has advanced medical equipment and advanced treatment methods currently needed in the field of emergency treatment.Responsible for the treatment of critically ill patients, scientific research on emergency medicine, and personnel training in Tianjin and even surrounding areas, it has always been in a leading position academically. After years of clinical and scientific research work, the national second-class emergency Chinese medicine "Xue Bi Jing" was developed. Now it is the only effective drug for the treatment of sepsis and was launched in 2003. It is widely used in major hospitals across the country and has achieved significant therapeutic effects and has been unanimously approved by experts in the same field. We have accumulated rich clinical experience in perioperative monitoring of surgical patients for acute multiple organ dysfunction syndrome, single organ failure (such as ARF, ARDS, DIC), sepsis, acute poisoning, multiple trauma, and shock caused by various reasons. In terms of scientific research, the department has launched more than 30 national, provincial and municipal fund projects, published nearly 200 high-level professional papers, of which more than 30 have been included in SCI, and have been approved for more than 20 scientific and technological achievements. It has won 1 second prize and 2 third prizes of the Chinese Medical Science and Technology Award, 2 second prizes and 1 third prize of the Society of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, and 1 first prize, 1 second prize and 3 third prizes of the Tianjin Science and Technology Progress Award. As a postdoctoral mobile station, Tianjin First Central Hospital can recruit postdoctoral talents in emergency medicine, providing superior conditions for further research and training after doctoral graduation. The talent echelon construction is gradually improving. Currently, there are 120 medical staff, 37 doctors and 83 nurses, 8 people with senior professional titles, 8 people with deputy senior professional titles; 40 people with intermediate professional titles, and 64 people with junior professional titles. Among them, there is 1 special expert, 5 PhDs, 3 PhD candidates, and 28 masters; 1 is employed as a doctoral supervisor at Tianjin Medical University, 1 is a doctoral supervisor at Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine; 6 are master supervisors at Tianjin Medical University, Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Nankai University School of Medicine, and a total of 53 graduate students have been trained. Among them, there are 35 master students and 18 doctoral students. There are currently 4 graduate students, including 2 with PhDs and 2 with master's degrees. It accepts more than 20 foreign training personnel every year. Currently, he is responsible for teaching and compiling all courses of "Emergency Medicine" for doctoral and master's degree students of Tianjin Medical University, Nankai University School of Medicine, and "Critical Care Medicine" of Tianjin Medical University.
