Urology Department

The Department of Urology of Tianjin First Central Hospital is an independent urology specialty established in 1956 by Professor Shi Xien, one of the founders of urology in my country, a famous urology expert and medical educator. Professor Shi Xien served as the first department director. Later, Professor Ouyang Qian and Professor Fan Yuling successively served as department directors. Since the establishment of the department, after decades of hard work by generations of urology experts, the department has continued to develop and grow. It has now developed into a first-class department in China with professional fields such as urological tumors, urinary tract stones, general urology, andrology, and minimally invasive urological robotic surgery. The department has a total of 44 medical staff, including 18 doctors and 26 nurses. The staffing and structure are reasonable. The Department of Urology has 50 beds. It currently has one member of the Urology Branch of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association, one member of the Basic Group of the Urology Committee of the Chinese Medical Association, one deputy director of the Urology Branch of the Tianjin Medical Association and the Urology Branch of the Tianjin Society of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, and several committee members of other societies. It has advanced and complete inspection, testing and treatment facilities for examination, testing and treatment.It has domestically advanced cystoscopy equipment, laparoscopic surgery equipment, robot-assisted surgery systems, hard and soft ureteroscopes, percutaneous nephroscopy, holmium laser, EMS lithotripsy, extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy, ultrasonic diagnostic equipment and other advanced urological diagnostic and treatment equipment. It is also equipped with functional examination rooms such as outpatient operating room, urodynamic examination room, extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy room, male function examination room and B-ultrasound room. The department has a comprehensive surgical system and advanced surgical techniques. As the Department of Urology of a tertiary general hospital, the department is able to provide patients with comprehensive treatment, and provide personalized treatment plans that are most suitable for the patient's condition based on the patient's individual condition, greatly improving the treatment effect and improving the patient's quality of life. Minimally invasive treatment of urological diseases has become a routine method, and our department also attaches great importance to promoting the development of minimally invasive technology in urology. In 2019, the latest generation of Da Vinci Xi robotic surgical system was introduced. Director Liu Qian's team took the lead in successfully performing Da Vinci Xi robot-assisted laparoscopic radical resection of prostate cancer, total cystectomy for bladder cancer, renal cancer combined with tumor thrombus surgery, partial nephrectomy, ureteral bladder reimplantation, combined inguinal lymphadenectomy for penile cancer, etc., and achieved good results.Robotic surgery is known as the pinnacle of contemporary surgery. It is the most advanced way for humans to combine high-tech technology with clinical surgery. The successful implementation of robot-assisted laparoscopic surgery marks a new step in minimally invasive surgery in our department and a new era. It also provides better surgical options for patients with urinary tract tumors such as prostate cancer, bladder cancer, and kidney cancer. In terms of stone treatment, our department has abandoned the traditional open incision and lithotripsy. With the help of holmium laser and ultrasonic lithotripsy and other equipment, it can carry out various minimally invasive stone surgeries including flexible ureteroscopy, percutaneous nephrolithotomy, etc. Currently, it has completed nearly 100 cases of various difficult stone surgeries, such as multi-channel percutaneous nephrolithotomy for complex cast stones, transplanted kidneys and ureteral stones, etc. For the surgical treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia, various minimally invasive surgeries such as transurethral holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) have been routinely performed. For patients with poor physical condition who cannot tolerate conventional surgery, prostatic artery embolization and transurethral prostate stent implantation can significantly improve the patient's urinary symptoms.The work on female urinary control continues to be carried out steadily, and many cases of female stress urinary incontinence surgeries such as TVT-O, TOT, etc. have been completed, which has greatly improved the quality of life of women with urinary incontinence. In the andrology department, various minimally invasive surgeries such as high spermatic vein ligation under a microscope and testicular sperm retrieval under a microscope can be routinely performed, and penile erection hardness testing will continue to be carried out in outpatient clinics. The department attaches great importance to teaching work and undertakes the teaching tasks of Tianjin Medical University and Nankai University. As a standardized training base for resident doctors in Tianjin, it has trained a large number of outstanding residents and master's and doctoral students. There is currently 1 doctoral supervisor and 1 master supervisor. In recent years, he has supervised 5 doctoral students and 6 master students. Currently, it recruits 6-7 doctoral and master's degree students every year, and currently has 6 on-the-job doctoral and master's degree students. He has won one second-class Tianjin Science and Technology Progress Award, completed five medical research achievement awards, and presided over many research projects such as the National Natural Science Foundation. We attach great importance to academic standards, encourage scientific research design and publish academic papers, and publish more than 10 domestic core journal articles and SCI articles every year. Obtained 2 national invention patents.At present, the Department of Urology in our hospital is a dynamic, enterprising, united and progressive team. The Department of Urology of Tianjin First Central Hospital aims to pursue high-quality medical teaching and research and serves patients wholeheartedly. The main focus is on comprehensive treatment of urinary system tumors, treatment of prostatic hyperplasia, systemic treatment of urinary tract stones, urinary continence, minimally invasive surgery and andrology. At present, sub-specialties such as comprehensive treatment of urinary tract tumors, treatment of urinary tract stones, transluminal surgery, laparoscopic surgery, continence and andrology have been formed.
