Thoracic Surgery Department
Tianjin First Central Hospital
The Department of Thoracic Surgery of Tianjin First Central Hospital was founded in 1941 by Professor Zhang Jizheng, a famous Chinese medical expert, director of surgery and director of thoracic surgery of Peking Union Medical College Hospital, who came to Tianjin during the war years. It has successively served in Tianhe Hospital and Tianjin First Central Hospital. In the 1940s, it was the first to successfully complete "left pneumonectomy" in China. Today, the Thoracic Surgery Department of Tianjin First Center is a national key training discipline and a key construction discipline of thoracic surgery in Tianjin. The hospital specializes in the surgical treatment of lung cancer, esophageal cancer, and mediastinal tumors. It is mainly good at minimally invasive surgical treatment of benign and malignant lung tumors, tracheal tumors, benign and malignant esophageal tumors, lung bullae, thymoma and other common, frequently-occurring and difficult diseases outside the chest. It has successfully carried out more than 10 advanced technologies, such as robot-assisted minimally invasive chest surgery, lung transplant surgery, 3D thoracoscopic radical lung cancer surgery, "flexible thoracoscopy" application, single-port thoracoscopic lung cancer surgery, giant esophageal diverticulectomy, etc. The thoracic department of this center has a strong technical force, with 62 beds on staff (47 in Area D + 15 in Area C on the 13th floor of Shuixi Campus), and the cumulative number of surgeries for lung cancer, esophageal cancer and other diseases has reached tens of thousands. There are currently 35 medical staff (including 3 re-employed experts), including 4 chief physicians, chief nurses, 4 deputy chief physicians, 4 attending physicians, and 4 residents, including 5 with doctoral degrees, 1 overseas postdoctoral fellow, and 1 master's degree supervisor. The young doctors in the department all graduated from famous universities across the country, majoring in thoracic surgery, a national key discipline, and all have postgraduate degrees. The Thoracic Surgery Department is also equipped with a full-time clinical pharmacist from the Department of Pharmacy (Clinical Pharmacy Lecturer from the Ministry of Health). The Thoracic Surgery Department has "Da Vinci surgical robot", "TV-assisted thoracoscopy" ("2D" and "3D"), "mediastinoscope", "cryotherapy device", "fiberbronchoscope", "soft" thoracoscope, "clinical and scientific research data room", "deep cryogenic refrigerator", "National Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Health", etc. In the past three years, department staff have presided over 1 National Natural Science Foundation of China project, 2 Tianjin Natural Science Foundation projects, and 5 Tianjin Municipal Health Commission Science and Technology Fund projects. They have published more than 50 papers as the first and corresponding authors, including more than 20 SCI papers, with a cumulative impact factor >80, and an average of more than 10 international SCI and Chinese core journals published annually. In recent years, relevant research results have been published many times at domestic and foreign conferences (American Thoracic Annual Meeting, World Lung Cancer Congress, etc.).It is a training unit for master's students in thoracic surgery at Nankai University and Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It serves as a teaching base for clinicians and nursing staff at Tianjin Medical University, Nankai University, Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and other institutions of higher learning. It is a diagnosis and treatment base for common and difficult thoracic diseases in Tianjin, North China and even the whole country, and a training base for clinical, scientific research and teaching of senior talents in thoracic surgery. As an alliance unit of the National Respiratory Center for Early Screening of Lung Tumors and Tubeless Minimally Invasive Technology, we now routinely carry out early screening for lung cancer, and use the concept of rapid recovery as a guide to routinely perform minimally invasive surgeries under tubeless anesthesia (no endotracheal intubation to maintain spontaneous breathing, no urinary catheter, no indwelling thick drainage tube or no tube) for specific groups of people. The one-center thoracic surgery center has strong capabilities in treating thoracic tumors. Taking advantage of the advantages of tertiary general hospitals, the future development direction of our department will be the "3T" direction, namely Tumor, Trauma, and Transplant!
