Tianjin People's Hospital

The Department of Joint and Sports Medicine of Tianjin People's Hospital is one of the earliest departments in China (Tianjin) specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of bone and joint diseases. In early 2006, a group of thoughtful and ambitious young orthopedic surgeons, after receiving systematic training at home and abroad, and with the strong support of the hospital, put the advanced concepts and technologies they had learned into practice and began to create the orthopedic subspecialty - Orthopedics and Joints. After nearly ten years of hard work, in order to adapt to the specialized and individualized diagnosis and treatment model of patients, the Department of Orthopedics and Joints further developed into the Joint Reconstructive Surgery and Sports Medicine Center in 2014. The center currently has more than 20 beds, with a bed utilization rate of more than 180%, an annual outpatient volume of more than 15,000, and an annual operation volume of nearly 1,000 cases, including nearly 600 joint replacements. There are currently 22 medical staff in the discipline, including 1 chief physician/professor and 3 deputy chief physicians, including 2 doctors and 6 masters, all of whom are from famous domestic universities (Pioneering Union, Fudan University, West China University, Nankai University, etc.).Tian Mengqiang, director of the department, is a visiting scholar at New York University Langone Medical Center and Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, head of the joint replacement and arthroscopy diagnosis and treatment team at Tianjin People's Hospital, and leader of the joint and sports medicine discipline. The team carried out artificial joint replacement and arthroscopic minimally invasive surgery earlier in Tianjin, and has been widely recognized by peers and patients. The department mainly performs various types of arthroscopic and incisional surgeries focusing on artificial joint replacement and sports injuries of knees, shoulders, elbows, hips, and ankles, including knee and shoulder joint replacements, various ligament injuries (reconstruction of anterior and posterior cruciate ligament injuries of the knee), meniscus and cartilage repair, and patellofemoral joint instability. Fixed, habitual shoulder dislocation, huge rotator cuff tear, bankart and slap injury repair, wrist joint disease, femoroacetabular impingement syndrome and labral injury repair, minimally invasive and staged surgical treatment of femoral head necrosis, ankle arthritis, ligament injury and talar cartilage injury, etc. Among them, shoulder arthroscopy double-row rotator cuff repair, hip arthroscopy minimally invasive staged treatment of femoral head necrosis, and acetabular labrum repair are all in the leading position in Tianjin, filling the technical gap in Tianjin. Currently, patients undergoing joint replacement surgery can get out of bed and move around on the same day and are discharged from the hospital within 4-7 days after surgery;Patients undergoing arthroscopic surgery can be discharged from the hospital on the same day. The department's nursing team has a high-quality, highly educated and high-level nursing team, with a total of 14 people. Nursing undergraduates account for more than 90% of the team. Professional nurses conduct detailed assessments of newly admitted patients, formulate personalized care plans, and provide systematic and standardized specialist care and rehabilitation training for postoperative patients. The team is taking the lead in Tianjin to explore the creation of pain-free ward management, integrated medical and nursing overall nursing model, etc., which has greatly improved the nursing level of the department. At present, the department has a reasonable talent echelon structure, strong technical force, and complete equipment. It has advanced arthroscopic surgery operating systems, cpm functional exercise machines, ECG monitors, and anti-decubitus air cushions. It is the only diagnosis and treatment department in Tianjin that specializes in the combination of joints and sports medicine. Many experts in the department serve as members of the Orthopedics Branch of the Chinese Medical Association and the Tianjin Orthopedics Professional Committee, and have participated in the compilation and translation of the surgical section of the monograph "Rheumatology and Immunology Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine" and "the multiple ligament injured knee". He has published more than 30 papers in medline/core journals such as SCI, Chinese Orthopedics, and Chinese Reconstructive Surgery. As an affiliated teaching hospital of Nankai University, Tianjin Medical University and Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the department is responsible for the rotational teaching of graduate students, regular training and interns.
