The Department of Bone and Soft Tissue Oncology of Tianjin Hospital has a long history of more than 40 years. It has now become an institution specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of bone tumors integrating clinical, teaching and scientific research. It has performed more than 5,000 operations and enjoys a high reputation in the country. Before the establishment of Tianjin Hospital, Professor Fang Xianzhi had become one of the leaders in the field of bone tumors in my country. Tianjin Hospital has reached the domestic advanced level in clinical treatment, pathology and imaging of bone tumors. In 1980, Tianjin Hospital proposed my country's first bone tumor classification system, which was widely used in the formulation of more than 4,000 bone tumor resection surgeries, bone defect reconstruction, and pathological diagnosis evaluation. The application of neoadjuvant chemotherapy and radiotherapy effectively guarantees the patient's prognosis. The Department of Bone and Soft Tissue Oncology was the first at home and abroad to treat nearly 100 patients with an innovative microwave in-situ hyperthermia limb-sparing technology. The 5-year survival rate increased from 20% with surgery alone to 70%--80%. The tumor recurrence rate after limb-sparing surgery was reduced to less than 10%, reaching the leading domestic level. The main work currently carried out includes: Spine: one-stage anterior and posterior surgery of the whole spine to treat spinal tumors; percutaneous vertebroplasty to treat spinal metastatic tumors.Pelvis: Microwave hyperthermia limb salvage surgery for primary pelvic malignant tumors; acetabular tumor exclusion; sacral tumor resection after abdominal aorta balloon occlusion. Limbs: Microwave in-situ hyperthermia limb salvage surgery for malignant bone tumors in the limbs; percutaneous osteoid osteoma resection under CT guidance; treatment of pathological fractures of long bones in the limbs caused by bone tumors. Children: Limb salvage surgery for malignant bone tumors in children's limbs and in vitro and in vivo inactivation limb salvage surgery. Adjuvant treatment: Neoadjuvant chemotherapy is used to treat osteosarcoma; image-guided percutaneous injection of hormones, bioprotein glue and calcium sulfate bone cement is used to treat bone cysts.
