The Foot and Ankle Surgery Department of Tianjin Hospital has two departments: Orthopedics Foot and Ankle Ward 1 and Orthopedics Foot and Ankle Ward 2: 1. Orthopedics Foot and Ankle Ward 1 The Foot and Ankle Ward 1 is good at various complex foot and ankle fractures, especially the correction of malunion of old foot and ankle fractures, and has accumulated a lot of successful experience. He has conducted in-depth research on the treatment of various foot deformities such as valgus, flat feet, high-arched clubfoot, etc., and has rich experience. There are currently two chief physicians, two deputy chief physicians, two attending physicians, two with postdoctoral degrees, one with a doctorate and two with a master's degree. 2. The Second Ward of Orthopedics and Foot and Ankle Surgery The Second Ward of Foot and Ankle Surgery of Tianjin Hospital was established in 2014. It is a clinical department whose main features are the treatment of foot and ankle trauma, foot and ankle orthopedics, sports injuries, and bone disease treatment. At present, the foot and ankle ward 2 of Tianjin Hospital has 36 general beds, with an annual operation volume of more than 1,800 times, and a total of 9 doctors, including 3 chief physicians, 4 deputy chief physicians, and 2 attending physicians; 5 of them have doctorates and 3 have master's degrees.The nursing team has a total of 14 people, including 1 deputy chief nurse, 5 supervisor nurses, and 8 nurse practitioners (Figure 1). The talent echelon structure is reasonable. Our department has inherited and carried forward the traditional advantages of the Department of Traumatology and Orthopedics of Tianjin Hospital. As early as the 1980s, minimally invasive prying surgery for calcaneal fractures was carried out earlier in the country and was widely promoted in the country. In recent years, under the leadership of Director Zeng Xiantie, the Foot and Ankle Ward No. 2 has actively pioneered and innovated. In terms of sports injuries, arthroscopic minimally invasive surgery has been used to treat sports injuries of soft tissues around the ankle, such as ligaments and Achilles tendons. It has completed multiple microscopic surgeries such as arthroscopic anterior/posterior ankle impaction plasty, ankle arthroscopic fusion, and subtalar joint fusion. Our department follows the principle of individualized treatment and develops individualized treatment plans for patients with foot and ankle deformities (hallux valgus, flatfoot, cavus and other toe deformities, etc.). Under the guidance of the concepts of "evidence-based medicine", "precision medicine" and "digital orthopedics", we continue to try advanced technologies to realize deformity osteotomy surgery under computer-aided design, accurately calculate the osteotomy angle through computer-aided design, and customize osteotomy guide plates through 3D printing technology to achieve precision and personalization of osteotomy and correction;At the same time, our team completed subtalar joint fusion, ankle joint fusion, and talus fracture surgeries with robot assistance, achieving precise positioning under robot operation. In recent years, many cases of ankle joint replacement technology have been successfully carried out, and all achieved satisfactory results. Our department is one of the earliest in the field of domestic orthopedics to carry out ERAS (Enhanced Recovery After Surgery), or accelerated recovery surgery, including pain-free ward construction, orthopedic DVT management, perioperative patient nutritional management and other projects, gradually achieving painless and stress-free accelerated recovery, thus shortening hospitalization time, lowering hospitalization costs, reducing complications, improving patient experience, and increasing patient satisfaction. Many domestic hospitals have visited our department to study. In the context of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei integration, our team actively leveraged its disciplinary advantages and hosted many foot and ankle surgery academic conferences and special study classes.
