The Massage Department of the First Affiliated Hospital of Tianjin University of Chinese Medicine was founded in 1958. After more than 60 years of unremitting efforts by three generations of massage practitioners, Hu Xiuzhang, Chen Zhihua and Wang Jingui, it was rated as a "Key Discipline of Traditional Chinese Medicine by the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine" in 2012. Now it has become a key discipline of the Ministry of Education, a key discipline of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, a standardized training base for resident physicians in Tianjin, a professional education and training base for acupuncture at Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, a national key clinical specialty, a national key specialty of traditional Chinese medicine, and a national regional (specialty) diagnosis and treatment center of traditional Chinese medicine. It is a diagnosis and treatment center for both internal and external traditional Chinese medicine that integrates medicine, teaching, and research. Its comprehensive strength is domestically leading. In terms of clinical capacity building, this discipline has three subspecialties: Orthopedics and Traumatology, Department of Zang-Fu Syndrome and Syndrome, and Pediatric Massage. With 200 open beds, 25 outpatient clinics, and 14 external therapies with traditional Chinese medicine characteristics, the hospital discharges more than 6,000 people annually and has more than 120,000 outpatient visits annually. It is currently the largest clinical platform in the field of massage in China. The discipline of massage has long been deeply exploring the source of traditional massage technology, creating the "Jingu Massage" brand, and forming three technical branches: "Jingu Traumatology Massage", "Jingu Visceral Massage" and "Jingu Pediatric Massage", becoming a representative massage school in China.At the same time, the discipline adheres to the hybrid treatment concept of "acupuncture, moxibustion, Tietuojian pills, and methods are all available", and with the help of modern science and technology, it gradually develops more than ten external treatment techniques with traditional Chinese medicine characteristics. In terms of scientific research capabilities, this discipline has the scientific research platform of the Third-level Traditional Chinese Medicine Research Laboratory of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine - Massage Technique Biological Effects Laboratory, and carries out in-depth scientific research around four research directions. Currently, this discipline is responsible for a total of 101 projects at the national, provincial and ministerial levels, including 25 national projects including the “Eleventh Five-Year Plan” National Science and Technology Support Plan and the National Natural Fund, 13 provincial and ministerial science and technology awards, 11 national authorized patents, and has written 37 academic works. The scientific research level ranks among the top in the industry nationwide. In terms of teaching capacity building, this discipline, as a standardized training base for residents in Tianjin, a teaching team in Tianjin, and a massage experimental teaching center for ordinary colleges and universities in Tianjin, continuously improves the construction of massage textbooks, compiled 62 national planned textbooks, edited 9 textbooks, and deputy editors 19. In particular, it edited the core course textbook "Tuina" for the world's traditional Chinese medicine majors, leading the development of massage education at home and abroad.He has conducted in-depth teaching research and teaching reform, and has won the Outstanding Achievement Award for Higher Education Research and the Outstanding Paper Award for Traditional Chinese Medicine Education Scientific Research Papers from the National Association for Higher Education in Chinese Medicine. Research directionAfter more than 60 years of efforts by predecessors, the discipline of massage has formed four stable research directions, namely clinical research on the prevention and treatment of spinal and osteoarticular diseases with massage, research on the brain-intestinal mechanism of viscera massage in the intervention of functional medical diseases, research on the treatment of pediatric diseases with massage on specific points, and research on massage standardization. Research achievements At present, the team of this discipline has formed a scientific and technological research achievement cluster with "Jingu Massage" as the core: 1. There are 13 provincial and ministerial science and technology awards for scientific research achievements, including 2 first prizes, 2 second prizes, and 11 national authorized patents. 2. Standardization achievements build a standardized paradigm that leads the development of massage technology with standards: took the lead in formulating the Chinese Society of Traditional Chinese Medicine's "Guidelines for Massage Techniques and Operations", participated in the compilation of the World Health Organization's "WHO Massage Practices" and "WHO Massage Training Standards", and took the lead in the formulation and revision of 8 TCM clinical diagnosis and treatment guidelines. 3.
