Oncology Department

The Department of Oncology was established in 1957, carrying the unremitting efforts and wisdom of four generations of oncology experts. Under the leadership of Professor Jia Yingjie, a nationally renowned Chinese medicine practitioner, the department has won a good reputation among patients and their families by virtue of its unique advantages of Chinese medicine and high-quality service. It has strong strength and influence in the same field across the country, and occupies an important academic position. The Department of Oncology is a national key clinical specialty, a national specialty construction unit of advantageous traditional Chinese medicine, a key specialty of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, a construction unit of a regional TCM (specialty) diagnosis and treatment center of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, a demonstration ward for standardized treatment of cancer pain of the Ministry of Health, a unit leader of the National Prostate Cancer Collaborative Group, a unit leader of the Prostate Cancer Traditional Chinese Medicine Standardization Research Team, a chairman unit of the Chinese and Western Integration Prostate Cancer Professional Committee of the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association, and a member of Tianjin Municipal Government. The vice-chairman unit of the Anti-Cancer Association, the Tianjin Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine Oncology, the chairman unit of the Tianjin Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine Cancer Professional Committee, the first batch of CINV standardized management demonstration wards in the country, the first batch of outstanding units in the country for the standardized diagnosis and treatment of cancer-related fatigue (CRF), and the top 500 basic cancer nutrition training bases in China, took the lead in establishing the Tianjin Traditional Chinese Medicine Oncology Specialty Alliance and the Tianjin Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Prostate Cancer Alliance.A reasonable talent echelon has been formed, including 3 postdoctoral co-supervisors, 2 doctoral supervisors, 12 master's degree supervisors, 1 nationally renowned Chinese medicine practitioner, 1 expert enjoying the special government allowance of the State Council, 2 national senior Chinese medicine expert academic experience inheritance instructors, and 7 successors. There are 1 outstanding young person, 1 New Century Talent from the Ministry of Education, 1 Tianjin Famous Traditional Chinese Medicine Doctor, 3 Tianjin “131” talents, 1 new medical talent from Tianjin’s “First Batch of High-level Talent Selection and Training Project in the Health and Family Planning Industry”, 1 Tianjin Famous Teaching Teacher, and 2 Tianjin Youth Innovation Backbone Talents. Under the leadership of Professor Jia Yingjie, a nationally renowned TCM doctor and academic leader, and Director Kong Fanming, the subject leader, this specialty takes "removing the turbidity and cultivating the foundation" as the new concept of cancer treatment, features the construction of key specialties, takes the scientific research of integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine as its advantages, and takes multi-disciplinary cross-coordination as its development pattern. It is based in Tianjin, facing the whole country, and radiating to the world, to build a high-level, export-oriented, domestically first-class, and internationally renowned TCM oncology research base. It has carried out more than 10 types of traditional Chinese medicine diagnosis and treatment techniques and more than 30 types of modern diagnosis and treatment techniques, and created a new model of multi-channel, multi-method and multi-method "three-dimensional treatment" of malignant tumors.There are 191 open beds in the four wards of the department, with an annual outpatient volume of more than 100,000. Under the guidance of the model of "focusing on traditional Chinese medicine and integrating traditional Chinese and Western medicine; focusing on internal medicine and developing towards minimally invasive surgery", medical oncology treatments such as traditional Chinese medicine combined with chemotherapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy are routinely carried out. At the same time, minimally invasive treatments such as iodine 125 seed implantation, radiofrequency tumor ablation, arterial infusion chemotherapy, nerve block/destruction, and patient-controlled analgesia for solid tumors are carried out as a useful supplement to medical treatment. Combining the characteristics of traditional Chinese medicine oncology, we use the full intervention of traditional Chinese medicine, the combination of acupuncture and medicine, and rely on special TCM outpatient clinics for post-tumor recovery/radiotherapy and chemotherapy attenuation, and cancer-related fatigue wards to promote post-tumor recovery, reduce toxicity and increase efficiency of tumor treatment, effectively extending the survival period of patients and improving their quality of life.
