The Cardiovascular Department was founded in the 1950s and has gone through three stages and five generations of inheritance and development. Under the hard work of the older generation of experts such as the famous veteran Chinese medicine practitioner Mr. Dong Xiaochu, the master of traditional Chinese medicine Professor Ruan Shiyi, it has now formed a team led by masters of traditional Chinese medicine and the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Professor Zhang Boli, a scholar, is the academic leader, Professor Mao Jingyuan, a nationally renowned Chinese medicine practitioner and Qihuang scholar, is the subject leader, Professor Wang Xianliang, a young Qihuang scholar and a famous young Chinese medicine practitioner in Tianjin, is the reserve subject leader, and young and middle-aged experts are the backbone of the talent team. In recent years, it has made remarkable achievements in clinical, scientific research, teaching, talent team and platform construction, etc., and the comprehensive strength and academic influence of the discipline have been continuously improved. In the 2022 and 2023 academic influence evaluation of traditional Chinese medicine hospital disciplines (specialties), it ranked third in the country in the ranking of traditional Chinese medicine cardiology (TCM cardiovascular disease) for two consecutive years.The discipline has been selected as the "top priority" discipline in Tianjin, the key discipline and key specialty of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. In 2008, it was approved to become the construction unit of the National Coronary Heart Disease Traditional Chinese Medicine Clinical Research Base. In 2012, it was selected into the "Innovation Team Development Plan" of the Ministry of Education and in 2016 It has received rolling support every year, and was rated as an "Advanced Group in the National Health and Family Planning System" in 2017. In 2018, it became a national regional TCM (cardiovascular) diagnosis and treatment center, taking the lead in the national clinical collaboration pilot project of traditional Chinese and Western medicine for major and difficult diseases (chronic heart failure). In 2022, it was selected as a national TCM The inheritance and innovation team was selected as a high-level key discipline of traditional Chinese medicine by the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 2023, and was approved as the Tianjin Institute of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine for Cardiovascular Disease. In 2024, it was selected as a national advantageous specialty of traditional Chinese medicine, and was once again selected for the national clinical collaboration project of traditional Chinese and western medicine for major difficult diseases (heart failure).It now has 120 medical staff, including 53 doctors and researchers, including 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 1 master of traditional Chinese medicine, 2 nationally renowned Chinese medicine practitioners, 2 Qihuang scholars, 2 young Qihuang scholars, and 4 experts specially awarded by the State Council government. There are 4 nationally renowned old TCM inheritance experts, 1 nationally outstanding Chinese clinical talent, 1 Tianjin Haihe medical scholar, 4 Tianjin famous TCM doctors, 1 Tianjin young famous TCM doctor, 2 Tianjin Jinmen medical talents, and 2 Tianjin young emerging medical talents. There are 8 doctoral supervisors and 18 master’s supervisors.
