Rheumatology and Immunology Department

The Department of Rheumatology and Immunology was established in the 1970s. Under the leadership of Liu Wei, Wu Yuanhao and other department leaders, after decades of development, it has formed a comprehensive rheumatism diagnosis and treatment center integrating clinical, teaching, scientific research, technological innovation, and guideline formulation. The department pioneered the academic thought of "Tupi Bi Theory" and formed a "disease and syndrome combination" diagnosis and treatment technology system for Tou Bi that is complete with theories, methods, prescriptions, and medicines around dominant diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, Sjögren's syndrome, systemic lupus erythematosus, gout, spondyloarthritis, and joint pain.The discipline has been rated as a key discipline by the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, a key specialist by the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, a director unit of the Rheumatic Diseases Professional Committee of the Chinese Society of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, a chairman unit of the Rheumatology and Immunity Drug Research Professional Committee of the China Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine, a deputy director unit of the Rheumatology Professional Committee of the Chinese Society of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and a Chinese Medicine Immunity Professional Committee of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies. Vice-president unit of the committee, leader unit of the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine’s key specialty disease "Zaobi" collaboration group, standing member unit of the Internal Medicine Branch of the Chinese Society of Traditional Chinese Medicine, chairman unit of the Rheumatology Professional Committee of the Tianjin Society of Traditional Chinese Medicine, chairman unit of the Rheumatology and Immune Diseases Professional Committee of the Tianjin Society of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, and deputy chairman unit of the Rheumatology Branch of the Tianjin Medical Association. There are currently 45 medical staff in the discipline, including 1 Qihuang scholar, 1 famous Chinese medicine practitioner in Tianjin, 1 national veteran Chinese medicine expert academic experience inheritance instructor, 1 doctoral supervisor, and 5 master's degree supervisors. In the past ten years, 23 projects have been approved at the provincial and ministerial level (including societies) and above, and 7 science and technology awards have been obtained at the provincial and ministerial level (including societies) and above.He has edited 5 books and textbooks, won 1 first-class course in Tianjin, was approved as Tianjin Science Popularization Education Base, and was rated as Tianjin Excellent Science Popularization Base in 2024.
