Nephrology Department

The Department of Nephrology was founded in the 1950s. Through the unremitting efforts of famous TCM doctors such as Mr. Chai Pengnian, a famous doctor in Tianjin, Professor Huang Wenzheng, a nationally famous TCM doctor, Professor Cao Shili, a famous TCM doctor in Tianjin, and Professor Yang Hongtao, the Department of Nephrology has continued to grow and develop, and has now become a well-known TCM nephrology department in China.

In recent years, the discipline has made remarkable achievements in clinical, scientific research, teaching and other aspects, and its comprehensive strength and academic influence have been continuously improved.

In the 2022 and 2023 academic influence evaluation of traditional Chinese medicine hospital disciplines (specialties), it ranked fifth in the country in the ranking of traditional Chinese medicine nephrology for two consecutive years.

The discipline has been continuously rated as the superior specialty and key discipline of traditional Chinese medicine by the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and has been approved as a third-level laboratory of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine - Kidney Histology Biology Laboratory.

In 2011, it was recognized as one of the first batch of peritoneal dialysis training demonstration centers of the Ministry of Health. In 2020, it was approved as the Tianjin Chronic Kidney Disease Clinical Medical Research Center. In 2021, it was approved as the Chronic Kidney Disease Prevention and Treatment Popularization Base of the First Affiliated Hospital of Tianjin Traditional Chinese Medicine. In 2022, it became a key specialty and key discipline of Tianjin Traditional Chinese Medicine. The Yang Hongtao famous doctor science popularization studio of the China Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine was established to lead the "Tianjin Traditional Chinese Medicine Kidney Disease Specialty Alliance".

In the course of nearly fifty years of development, it has formed a national first-class TCM nephrology specialty with distinctive TCM characteristics.

The discipline consists of specialist outpatient clinics, general wards, peritoneal dialysis center, blood purification center, etc.

There are 96 open hospital beds, with an annual outpatient volume of more than 140,000 and more than 3,000 discharges.

There are currently 103 medical staff, including 41 doctors, 5 postdoctoral co-supervisors, 5 doctoral supervisors, 18 master's supervisors, 1 nationally renowned Chinese medicine practitioner, 4 famous Chinese medicine practitioners in Tianjin, 4 nationally recognized senior Chinese medicine experts' academic experience inheritance instructors, 3 nationally outstanding clinical talents in Chinese medicine, 2 famous young Chinese medicine practitioners in Tianjin, and 2 new young medical talents in Tianjin.
