Pathology Department

The Second Hospital of Tianjin Medical University

The Pathology Department of the Second Hospital of Tianjin Medical University currently has 19 medical and technical staff, including 2 deputy chief physicians, 1 master's tutor, 4 doctors with doctoral degrees, and 12 doctors with master's degrees. In addition to carrying out routine pathology tests, the department also carries out molecular pathology testing projects such as special chemical staining, out-of-hospital difficult pathological diagnosis, CISH and FISH. Featured subspecialties include urology and male reproductive pathology, breast pathology, digestive pathology and female reproductive pathology. Hosted 9 funds, including 1 at the national level, 3 at the provincial level, and 5 at the academy level; published more than 80 papers, including 25 SCI papers; participated in the editing of 4 monographs; won 1 second prize and 2 third prizes for provincial scientific and technological progress. 1. Featured subspecialties - urology and male reproductive pathology: standardized pathological diagnosis of prostate saturation puncture specimens, radical prostate cancer specimens, standardized pathological diagnosis and molecular classification of bladder cancer, classification and standardized pathological diagnosis of renal cancer, diagnosis and differential diagnosis of penile urethra and testicular tumors. Our hospital is the earliest tertiary-level specialty hospital in Tianjin with urology as a national key discipline. In recent years, well-known experts in urological and male reproductive pathology at home and abroad have been invited for academic exchanges many times. Members of the department have participated in the formulation and compilation of many domestic guidelines and atlases for the urological and male reproductive subspecialty pathology. The diagnostic level is in a leading position in the country. 2. Specialty subspecialty - breast pathology: standardized pathological diagnosis, molecular typing, HER2 gene FISH detection of breast cancer, pathological diagnosis of breast carcinoma in situ and early infiltration, classification and pathological diagnosis of breast phyllodes tumors, classification and pathological diagnosis of breast ductal papillary tumors, pathological diagnosis of breast cancer specimens after neoadjuvant chemotherapy, etc. Members of the department participated in the compilation of the "Breast Cancer HER2 Detection Guidelines" and the "Expert Consensus on Pathological Diagnosis of Neoadjuvant Treatment of Breast Cancer". 3. Featured subspecialty - digestive pathology: pathological diagnosis of gastric cancer, HER2 protein detection, HER2 gene FISH detection, pathological diagnosis and genetic research of gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST), classification and pathological diagnosis of gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors, pathological diagnosis of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), pathological diagnosis of intestinal cancer, microsatellite instability (MMR) detection, etc.Members of the department participated in the "China-Japan Digestive Endoscopy Clinical Diagnosis, Treatment and Pathology Joint Training Project" jointly established by the National Health and Family Planning Commission and the Japan-China Medical Association. They studied digestive tract endoscopic pathology at the Japan Cancer Research Akira Hospital, and have certain experience in the standardized pathological diagnosis of endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) specimens and the pathological diagnosis of early gastrointestinal cancer. 4. Featured subspecialty-female reproductive pathology: Cervical thin-layer liquid-based cytology and two cancer screenings, pathological diagnosis of cervical epithelial precancerous lesions, p16 and other immunohistochemical detection, standardized pathological diagnosis of cervical cancer, pathological diagnosis of endometrial proliferative lesions, classification and pathological diagnosis of endometrial cancer , Microsatellite instability (MMR) detection, pathological diagnosis and differential diagnosis of uterine mesenchymal tumors (especially smooth muscle tumors and stromal tumors), classification, grading and pathological diagnosis of ovarian tumors, classification and pathological diagnosis of fallopian tube tumors, etc. Many members of the department have obtained national-level cervical cytology standardized training certificates.5. Featured technology - special staining: Special staining is used to display specific tissue structures or other special components, such as glycogen, mucus, reticular fibers, elastic fibers, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, fungi, Helicobacter pylori (Hp), etc. It is a supplement to conventional HE staining and immunohistochemistry techniques, and plays an auxiliary diagnostic role in pathological diagnosis. The department has now carried out more than ten special dyeings such as reticular fiber, elastic fiber, periodic acid Schiff (PAS), AB-PAS, acid-fast, Congo red, hexaamine silver, Masson, Hp, etc. 6. Featured technology - in situ hybridization technology: In situ hybridization technology includes fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), chromogenic in situ hybridization (CISH) and other hybridization technologies. FISH is a technology that uses non-radioactive fluorescent signals to detect in situ hybridization samples. CISH refers to the technology of using alkaline phosphatase-labeled probes for hybridization reaction in paraffin tissue, using anti-digoxigenin-antibodies and horseradish peroxidase-antibodies for immunoconjugation, DAB color development, and detecting the nucleic acid to be tested in paraffin tissue under an optical microscope. The above two tests have similar results and have the advantages of high accuracy and clear guidance. They can also be tested multiple times and multiple genes at the same time, saving testing time. It is widely used in clinical diagnosis of breast cancer, soft tissue tumors, lymphoma, non-small cell lung cancer, hematological tumors, urinary tumors, gynecological tumors, etc. Our department has a complete molecular pathology laboratory and corresponding equipment, experienced diagnosticians, and technicians with certificates. They provide patients with FISH and CISH testing services with excellent professionalism, provide patients with reliable basis for formulating individualized diagnosis and treatment, improve diagnostic accuracy, and clarify targeted treatment plans. 7. Featured technology - preparation of large tissue sections: Currently, large sections of pathological tissue are mainly used for detection and diagnosis of tumor invasion at the circumferential resection margins of prostatectomy specimens and rectal cancer specimens. The large-section technology ensures the integrity of tissues such as the prostate and intestines, and can visually observe the entire cross-section of the specimen under the microscope, which is helpful for outlining the scope of the tumor, locating the tumor, and observing the involvement of each area of the specimen and the resection margin. It is also beneficial for comparison with imaging studies such as CT and MRI.
