Oncology Department
The Second Hospital of Tianjin Medical University
The Oncology Department of the Second Hospital of Tianjin Medical University has 50 beds and is responsible for a number of domestic Phase I clinical trials. There are currently 25 medical staff, including 1 chief physician, 2 deputy chief physicians, 2 doctors with doctoral degrees, and 6 doctors with master's degrees. The featured technology is targeted and immunotherapy guided by NGS sequencing. The department combines the interpretation of next-generation sequencing results for patients with advanced refractory tumors with the practice of clinical precision treatment, and for the first time proposes the "Chinese standards" for precision treatment based on evidence levels, breaking the traditional "same disease and treating the same disease" model, practicing the MTB model of the Molecular Tumor Expert Committee, and promoting the standardization process of precision diagnosis and treatment of tumors in my country. The technology of puncture biopsy and radioactive particle implantation of difficult tumors is mature. It is the radioactive particle training base of the National Minimally Invasive Cancer Alliance and the Tianjin Municipal Health Commission, and has obtained 10 national invention patents and utility models. In 2016, he was awarded the "Top Ten Medical Emerging Forces to Promote the Industry" by the Chinese Medical Doctor Association. In 2017, he was awarded the 100 Most Influential Domestic Academic Papers in China. In 2018, he was awarded the National "Smart Medical - Top Ten Outstanding Departments Special Award". In 2020, he was awarded the second prize of Tianjin Science and Technology Progress Award. Featured technologies:Since its establishment, the department, under the leadership of the subject leader Professor Wang Haitao, has strictly followed the concept of evidence-based medicine, implemented precision tumor treatment, and mainly carried out diagnosis, treatment and research of late-stage refractory tumors. Through the implementation of comprehensive methods such as individualized radiotherapy and chemotherapy, NGS sequencing-guided targeted therapy, immunotherapy, localized precise radioactive particle brachytherapy, and intratumoral injection of oncolytic viruses for advanced tumors, patients’ lives have been prolonged and their quality of life improved. Precision medicine targeted and immunotherapy: Based on biological characteristics such as signaling pathway activation or gene target mutations that exist during the occurrence and development of tumors, we provide patients with individualized precision treatment strategies, breaking the traditional "same disease and treating the same disease" solid diagnosis and treatment model, and are expected to break through the treatment bottleneck of refractory tumors. Combining the interpretation of next-generation sequencing results of patients with advanced refractory tumors and the practice of clinical precision treatment, the department proposed for the first time the "Chinese standards" for precision treatment decisions for refractory tumors based on evidence levels, implemented the diagnosis and treatment model of the "Molecular Tumorboard (MTB)", promoted the standardization process of precision diagnosis and treatment of tumors, and laid a solid foundation for the formulation of specifications for precision diagnosis and treatment of refractory tumors.Precision puncture biopsy of tumors: The level of puncture technology is at the leading level in the country. It pioneered digital navigation and robot-assisted positioning technology. It is especially good at precise puncture diagnosis of small pulmonary micro-nodules below 1cm and precise puncture of difficult and complex parts of the body. It has hosted multiple national small micro-nodule precision puncture training courses and trained more than 100 tumor puncture doctors across the country. Radioactive particle implantation therapy: This technology is at the leading level in the world. He was the first to complete the world's first 3D coplanar template-guided radioactive particle implantation. He participated in the formulation of my country's radioactive particle technology treatment standards for tumors. He is the editor-in-chief of the monograph "Radioactive Particle Therapy of Thoracic Tumors" published by the People's Medical Publishing House. It is the country's first radioactive particle training base selected by the National Minimally Invasive Cancer Alliance and the Tianjin Municipal Health Commission's restricted medical technology-radioactive particle implantation technology training base. It has hosted multiple national-level tumor radioactive particle training courses, and the team's results have been selected into the American ABS World Brachytherapy Cancer Conference. This technology is widely used for refractory primary and metastatic tumors of the head and neck, chest and abdomen and pelvis, with few side effects and high local control rate. Oncolytic virus synergistic immune-boosting therapy: Oncolytic virus is a new type of tumor immunotherapy that directly attacks tumor cells by targeting infection and effectively activates systemic anti-tumor responses.Intratumoral injection of oncolytic viruses improves immunogenicity, reshapes the immune microenvironment, and combines therapy with systemic immunity to kill tumors synergistically and efficiently. Our center innovatively uses a dual-immune combined therapy model of oncolytic virus and systemic immunity, and has achieved good therapeutic effects in the treatment of various solid tumors!
