Otolaryngology Department

The Second Hospital of Tianjin Medical University

The Department of Otolaryngology of the Second Hospital of Tianjin Medical University has three departments: throat department, rhinology department, and otology department: the number of beds is 45, and there are currently 41 medical staff, including 2 chief physicians, 8 deputy chief physicians, 3 doctors with doctorate degrees, and 12 doctors with master's degrees. It has endoscopy rooms (nasal endoscope, fiberoptic laryngoscope, dynamic laryngoscope), ear physiological examination room, vestibular function examination room, etc., as well as advanced equipment such as plasma radiofrequency ablation system, nasal high-definition surgical display system, nasal surgery power system, and surgical microscope. It can carry out various types of laryngeal microsurgery, a comprehensive treatment system for throat malignant tumors, which is less painful and has a better prognosis; it can also carry out various surgical procedures for snoring. In terms of rhinology and head and neck surgery, we perform endoscopic minimally invasive nasal surgery, nose and eye related diseases, nasal cavity and sinus tumor resection surgery, nasal skull base surgery, thyroid submandibular gland surgery and other surgeries.1. Pharyngology: We can diagnose and treat acute and chronic pharyngitis, tonsillitis, deep neck infection, pharyngeal and parapharyngeal benign and malignant tumors, styloid process syndrome, hyoid syndrome, pharyngeal motor and sensory nerve disorders, acute and chronic laryngitis, acute epiglottitis, laryngeal abscess, vocal cord polyps, vocal cord nodules, laryngeal obstruction and tracheostomy, laryngeal motor and sensory disorders, laryngeal benign and malignant tumors, laryngeal edema, laryngeal cysts, laryngeal amyloidosis, trachea and esophageal foreign bodies and lesions. At the same time, we conduct a comprehensive and multi-dimensional analysis of voice diseases, formulate personalized treatment plans, and carry out vocal cord surgery under laryngoscope, and laser or plasma resection of benign and malignant vocal cord tumors. Provide voice training for congenital, traumatic, and post-surgical pronunciation abnormalities, children's dysarthria, and slow speech development. For sleep breathing disorders, our department uses advanced sleep monitoring equipment to accurately diagnose the condition, and follows the world trend to provide standardized comprehensive treatment plans (including various surgeries and assisted ventilation treatments) to solve patients' sleep problems from a holistic perspective.2. Rhinology: Equipped with German Storz nose and sinus endoscopes (0°, 30°, 70°, 120°) and cold light source systems, it can accurately diagnose chronic rhinitis, sinusitis, nasal polyps, allergic rhinitis, nasal septum deviation, benign and malignant tumors of the nasal cavity and sinuses, olfactory disorders, epistaxis, hyperplasia, benign and malignant nasopharyngeal tumors, cerebrospinal fluid rhinorrhea and other nasal and sinus diseases. The clear field of view of the sinus endoscope and the low-temperature ablation of the plasma surgical system can be used to safely and completely remove the lesions while maintaining structural integrity, cutting off the vicious cycle between lesions, and restoring nasal cavity function. Microwave technology is used to selectively block the vidian nerve and preethmoidal nerve, reduce the excitability of nasal nerves, improve nasal ventilation function, and promote the regeneration of healthy new mucosa with defense and barrier functions to cure allergic rhinitis. Using the latest minimally invasive technology and comprehensive therapy, we can achieve precise results in the treatment of difficult ear, nose and throat diseases, including tumors. In addition, immunology and genetic research will also be conducted on nasopharyngeal cancer, and the inheritance and prognosis of nasopharyngeal cancer families will be discussed in depth. 3. Otology: Ear diseases mainly include secretory otitis media, cholesteatomatous otitis media, tympanic membrane perforation, acute and chronic suppurative otitis media, etc. These diseases can cause hearing impairment and even deafness to varying degrees. The disease can also affect nearby organs and even the brain. With the introduction of microendoscopic technology such as German otoscope and Chua's otological surgical microscope technology, tympanic membrane tube can be placed under the otoscope, and tympanic membrane repair can also be performed while stimulating tympanic membrane regeneration. He has performed radical surgery for chronic otomastoiditis, various types of middle ear plasty, traumatic facial paralysis, idiopathic facial paralysis, stapes surgery, endolymphatic sac surgery, and transmastoid acoustic neuroma resection under a large suspended microscope with good results, and has published many academic papers. Our department has an audiometry room with a pure tone audiometer and middle ear analyzer to determine whether there is hearing impairment and the degree of hearing loss. It is initially determined that the nature of the hearing impairment is conductive deafness, sensorineural deafness or mixed deafness. It is initially determined that the location of the hearing impairment is the middle ear, cochlea or retrocochlear nerve. Use the auditory evoked potential testing instrument to conduct cochlear electrogram and auditory brainstem response tests. The cochlear electrogram can understand the functional status of the single ear, and the auditory brainstem response can understand the hearing threshold. It can also understand whether the nerve function from the auditory nerve to the lateral lemniscus is intact. The incidence rate of patients with vertigo is increasing, among which otogenic vertigo is the main cause. Our department has introduced video electronystagmography. The examination items of video electronystagmography mainly include: saccade test, steady tracking test and optokinetic nystagmus test, gaze test, position test and hot and cold test. Used to determine the function of the vestibular system, central nervous system, and visual system. The American video electronystagmograph is the most advanced inspection equipment for diagnosing vertigo in China. This inspection instrument captures eye movement video images through a high-speed camera and transmits them to a computer for processing. Based on the processing results, it identifies the location, extent, and side of the injury that caused the onset of vertigo, and performs positioning, qualitative, and quantitative analysis to help doctors carry out the next step of diagnosis and treatment.
