Cardiology

The Department of Cardiology (Department of Cardiology) of the Second Hospital of Tianjin Medical University was founded in 1980 by Professor Shi Yushu, a famous cardiology expert in my country, as a comprehensive discipline integrating medical care, scientific research, and teaching.

The discipline is currently a Tianjin key medical discipline (provincial key discipline), Tianjin Key Laboratory of Ion and Molecular Function of Cardiovascular Disease, a key clinical discipline of Tianjin Medical University, a cardiovascular disease and metabolism construction discipline of Tianjin’s “13th Five-Year Comprehensive Investment” first-class discipline leading plan, and a member of the national double first-class university construction cardiovascular disease and metabolism characteristic discipline cluster construction discipline group. It is the first batch of doctoral and master’s training bases in my country, a training base for cardiology clinicians commissioned by the National Health and Family Planning Commission, and a national coronary heart disease intervention by the National Health and Family Planning Commission. Diagnosis and treatment training base, the National Arrhythmia Interventional Diagnosis and Treatment Training Base of the National Health and Family Planning Commission, the cardiovascular drug clinical research institution of the National Health and Family Planning Commission and the State Food and Drug Administration, the national standardized training base for residents, and the first batch of national standardized training bases for cardiovascular specialists. The first batch was selected as the National Chest Pain Center, Atrial Fibrillation Center, Heart Failure Center, Hypertension Compliance Center, Standardized Pulmonary Vascular Disease Center Demonstration Center, Cardiovascular Disease Center Lifestyle Medicine Alliance Compliance Center, Cardioembolic Stroke Center, and Syncope Center.

The discipline has been nominated for the Fudan version of the Chinese Hospital North China Cardiovascular Disease Reputation Ranking for many times. In the 2021 Chinese Hospital Science and Technology Value Ranking announced in August 2022, our specialty’s STEM and ASTEM rankings ranked first in the cardiovascular internal medicine rankings in Tianjin, and it has unique advantages in comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease.

There are currently 63 members in the discipline, including 3 who enjoy special government allowances from the State Council, 1 winner of the National Natural Science Fund for Outstanding Youth, 1 young and middle-aged scientist and technical expert who has made outstanding contributions, and 1 talent in the Hundred Thousand Talents Engineering Project;

2 first-level talents in Tianjin’s 131 Talent Project;

There are 2 "Tinmen Medical Talents" talents, 8 doctoral supervisors, and 22 master's supervisors.

The talent echelon of the disciplines is reasonably distributed, with an average age of 36. Currently, there are 53 physicians and 8 full-time clinical research researchers. The professional background of the personnel covers cardiovascular majors, epidemiology, statistics and other majors. The technical force is strong. Almost all of the team has a master's degree or above, of which 70% have a doctorate degree, 98% have a doctorate or master's degree, and 66% have senior professional titles. It is a young team with high academic qualifications and high professional titles.

The diagnosis and treatment direction of the discipline mainly focuses on radiofrequency ablation treatment of complex arrhythmias, research on the pathogenesis and prevention of atrial fibrillation, evaluation and interventional treatment of complex coronary artery lesions, basic research on the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis and acute coronary syndrome, screening for premature coronary heart disease risk factors and population characteristics. In terms of research, clinical and basic research on hypertension and vascular function, and cardiovascular ultrasound and imaging technology, the institute affiliated to the discipline is the Tianjin Key Laboratory of Ion and Molecular Function in Cardiovascular Disease, which has a strong scientific research influence in the clinical and basic research fields of cardiovascular disease in Tianjin and even across the country.

The discipline has always been among the national leaders in diagnosis and treatment technology for coronary heart disease, arrhythmia, and heart failure.

The discipline has published more than 800 papers in domestic and foreign journals, more than 400 papers have been included in SCI, and published more than 50 monographs. It has won a total of 24 awards at all levels, including the first prize of Tianjin Science and Technology Progress Award, and has obtained more than 40 scientific research achievements at all levels.
