Gastroenterology Department

The Department of Gastroenterology of the Second Hospital of Tianjin Medical University was established in 1992 and has now developed into an all-round department integrating "digestive disease clinical practice, digestive endoscopy diagnosis and treatment, teaching and scientific research".

In 2005, it was approved as the Digestive Clinical Pharmacology Base of the Ministry of Health. In 2023, it was awarded the national "Helicobacter pylori Standardized Diagnosis and Treatment Clinic" National Demonstration Center and the "Tianjin Inflammatory Bowel Disease Special Disease Alliance". It has held seminars on difficult cases of the digestive system in Tianjin for 13 consecutive years.

The number of beds is 42. The department has strong technical force and advanced equipment.

There are currently 35 medical staff, including 7 chief physicians, 3 deputy chief physicians, 2 master's degree supervisors, 6 doctors with doctoral degrees, and 10 nurses with master's degrees.

It is capable of completing difficult surgeries such as endoscopic POEM/ESD/STER/EFTR/FNA, varicose vein ligation and tissue glue hardening, stent and expansion surgeries, polyp removal and emergency hemostasis.

It discharges more than 1,500 patients annually, has more than 50,000 outpatient visits annually, and completes more than 15,000 gastroscopy examinations, more than 3,000 colonoscopies, more than 500 endoscopic ultrasounds, and 30 enteroscopies.

Undertaken more than 10 projects at the provincial, ministerial and municipal bureau levels, published more than 20 SCI articles, and more than 200 articles in Chinese core journals.

It has hosted seminars on difficult cases of the digestive system in Tianjin for several consecutive years.
