Children's Institute

The Institute of Pediatrics of Tianjin Children's Hospital was formerly known as the Pediatric Research Laboratory, which was founded in 1962. The first director of the laboratory was Professor Fan Quan, one of the founders of Chinese pediatrics and the founder of "Fan's Infusion Method".

Tianjin Institute of Pediatrics currently has 27 staff members, including 8 with senior professional titles, 4 with PhDs, and 3 supervisors with master's and doctoral degrees;

2 people from Tianjin’s “131” talent project (1 person each from the first and second levels);

1 leader of Tianjin's "131" innovation team (in the direction of pediatric surgery);

2 people from the Tianjin Health and Family Planning Industry High-Level Talent Selection and Training Project (1 person each from "Tinmen Medical Talent" and "Tinmen Medical New Talent").

As the main base for pediatric research, the Department of Pediatrics (Tianjin Institute of Pediatrics) has strong scientific research capabilities and is one of the city's high-level scientific research platforms in the field of pediatrics.

The institute has an etiology laboratory, a molecular medicine center, a genetic metabolic disease screening laboratory, a clinical information biosample bank, a cell culture and functional verification platform, and a bioinformatics analysis platform. It undertakes the important tasks of scientific research and clinical services, provides talent and experimental technology support for the development of scientific research projects, and provides teaching guidance for the cultivation of graduate students' experimental research capabilities.

The Tianjin Key Laboratory for the Prevention and Treatment of Child Birth Defects and the Tianjin University Precision Medicine Laboratory are both located in the Tianjin Institute of Pediatrics, which is conducive to integrating clinical medical resources and the scientific research capabilities of the institute, and promoting the overall improvement of scientific research levels.

The Tianjin Key Laboratory for the Prevention and Treatment of Birth Defects in Children is a provincial and ministerial key laboratory approved for establishment in November 2019. It aims to establish a high-level base for basic research and translational medical research on birth defects, a training base for professionals, and a demonstration base for the prevention and treatment of birth defects. It is committed to making breakthroughs in the cause of major birth defects, molecular genetic diagnosis, clinical intervention and treatment, and establishing a three-level prevention and treatment system for birth defects with demonstration significance.

The Precision Medicine Laboratory of Tianjin University completed the renovation in July 2022 and passed the acceptance inspection.

The laboratory focuses on the field of precision medicine and establishes a new laboratory with the goal of protecting the life and health of children, oriented by major clinical issues, and with cutting-edge basic research on precision medicine as its core.

In recent years, more than 180 projects have relied on the scientific research platform of the Tianjin Institute of Pediatrics, including the National Key Basic Research and Development Program (973 Program), the National High-Tech Research and Development Program (863 Program), the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and provincial, ministerial, and departmental-level projects.

He has published more than 200 scientific research papers in domestic and foreign journals, including more than 50 SCI papers.

He has been approved for 9 patents, participated in the editing of 4 books, and has 3 expert consensuses.

In the future, we will focus on the construction of the Tianjin Key Laboratory for the Prevention and Treatment of Child Birth Defects and the Precision Medicine Laboratory of Tianjin University, gradually improve more research platforms, clarify the causes and mechanisms of major birth defects, develop more new technologies and strategies for diagnosis and treatment, and make positive contributions to improving the quality and quality of life of the birth population in Tianjin and even in my country.
