Tianjin Children's Hospital

The Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine of Tianjin Children's Hospital was established in 1956 under the leadership of Mr. He Shiying. It currently has 2 traditional Chinese medicine practitioners and 1 acupuncture doctor. It has a half-day outpatient clinic for internal medicine and acupuncture, with an annual outpatient volume of 3,865.

In December 1959, a Chinese medicine ward with 36 beds was set up in the third ward on the third floor.

In 1960, a nephritis Chinese medicine clinic was established.

In 1962, the Traditional Chinese Medicine Ward was changed to a Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Ward, which was affiliated to the Dean's Office and opened a massage clinic. The Traditional Chinese Medicine Internal Medicine Clinic and the Acupuncture Clinic were changed to full-day clinics.

From 1966 to 1976, due to the influence of the "Cultural Revolution", the development of traditional Chinese medicine technology was slow. In 1966, the ward was closed, but the traditional Chinese medicine outpatient clinic continued to open.

In 1979, the traditional Chinese medicine ward was restored, with 20 beds and an annual hospitalization volume of 276.

Open 60-90 TCM family hospital beds per year.

In 1983, Director He Shiying was transferred out. Under the leadership of Directors Zhou Rongzhi, Cheng Ruiquan and Du Wenjuan, our department broke through the bottlenecks encountered in its development.

From 1987 to 2007, Director Du Wenjuan served as the third administrative director of our department. He made breakthroughs in ward and outpatient management. He focused on standardized management of wards, standardized medical record writing, and established a three-level ward round system.

In 2007, Director Huang Wenyu was appointed as the fourth director of the administrative department of our department. At that time, our department had 2 deputy chief physicians, 6 attending physicians, and 1 nurse.

In 2008, the TCM ward was closed again, but the TCM outpatient clinic remained open. In the same year, our department undertook the diagnosis and treatment tasks of intestinal clinic, diarrhea clinic and convenience clinic. During the peak period, the daily outpatient volume of the convenience clinic could reach 300-400 people, and the daily outpatient volume of the diarrhea clinic could reach more than 100 people, which greatly alleviated the pressure on the outpatient clinics of the whole hospital.

On the basis of treating original diseases, the traditional Chinese medicine clinic provides diagnosis and treatment of cholelithiasis, recurrent respiratory infections and other diseases with traditional Chinese medicine.

In 2012, Director Zhang Yongmei was appointed as the fifth director of the administrative section of our department.

In 2012, under the leadership of Director Zhang Yongmei, our department applied for the inheritance of the academic experience of famous veteran Chinese medicine experts in the country, carefully studied the clinical experience of Director Du Wenjuan, and trained Chief Physician Wang Jing and Chief Physician Xue Jun as successors. Among them, Chief Physician Wang Jing obtained a master's degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine.

In the same year, our department established Du Wenjuan Tianjin Famous Traditional Chinese Medicine Studio.

In 2022, Director Tao Ran will be responsible for managing the internal affairs of the department, and the development of the Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine is booming.

Director Tao Ran actively leverages the traditional advantages of traditional Chinese medicine. Based on the original oral administration of traditional Chinese medicine, he skillfully uses external treatment methods for internal diseases and vigorously develops external treatment methods of traditional Chinese medicine such as massage, acupuncture, cupping, applying, and auricular acupuncture for children, so as to reduce the distress of children taking medicine and achieve the dual effects of treating diseases and maintaining health.

Currently, the number of TCM outpatient clinics is increasing day by day.

Since 2016, we have welcomed graduates with doctorate and master's degrees to join the traditional Chinese medicine team, continuously injecting fresh blood into our department and adding new strength.
