Urology Department

Tianjin Children's Hospital

The Department of Urology of Tianjin Children's Hospital is located in Beichen Longyan Campus. Our department adheres to the spirit of studiousness, hard work, mutual assistance and innovation, and has achieved rapid and substantial development under the guidance of hospital leaders and domestic and foreign experts.

Our department specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of various congenital urogenital malformations, tumors, infections and trauma in children.

At present, on the basis of traditional disease treatment, the department's professional medical development shows the following characteristics: 1. Proficient in various minimally invasive urological surgical techniques: Routinely carries out and proficiently masters various minimally innovative technologies and surgical methods, filling many gaps in Tianjin and benefiting the majority of children.

We are the first to launch and routinely use laparoscopic minimally invasive methods in Tianjin to treat hydronephrosis, vesicoureteral reflux and ureterovesical junction obstruction, and minimally invasive kidney-sparing methods to treat repeated renal malformations, bladder diverticula, prostatic cysts, urinary system stones, etc.;

He is good at treating hydronephrosis in infants and young children with minimally invasive techniques, and has set a record that the minimum age for minimally invasive hydronephrosis surgery in Tianjin is only one month;

Conventional minimally invasive methods are used to treat cryptorchidism, ureteral cysts, renal cysts, renal dysplasia, ectopic kidneys, and adrenal tumors;

High varicocele ligation under high power microscope.

2. Single-port minimally invasive treatment of indirect hernia and hydrocele: The surgical methods for indirect hernia and hydrocele include traditional open method, three-port laparoscopy and single-port laparoscopy.

The single-hole technique used in our department has small wounds and almost no visible scars. It also has the advantages of fast recovery, mild pain, and low recurrence rate, and is well received by parents.

3. Use international advanced methods to treat hypospadias and epispadias.

For example, the internationally advanced Snodgrass method, Duckett method, Bracka method and free oral mucosa replacement urethroplasty have greatly improved the success rate of the operation, while also significantly improving the postoperative appearance and improving the children's self-confidence as adults.

At the same time, open catheterization was carried out for postoperative catheterization, which allowed the children to move early after surgery, which was more conducive to the children's physical and mental recovery after surgery, and was in line with the concept of rapid recovery surgical treatment.

4. Carry out prenatal consultation for congenital diseases of the fetal urinary system based on prenatal B-ultrasound, and conduct regular postpartum follow-up and early intervention for early recovery.

5. Other diseases diagnosed and treated by our department: kidney tumors, testicular tumors, ovarian tumors, foreign bodies in the urinary system, urachus malformation, urethral valves, urethral trauma, urethral stricture, duplication of urethra, urethral mucosal prolapse, hidden penis, penile torsion, webbed penis, phimosis, foreskin, testicular torsion, testicular appendage torsion, etc.

Professional title composition: There are 9 doctors in the team, including 2 with senior professional titles and 3 with intermediate professional titles;

There is 1 doctor, 1 doctor candidate, and 7 masters.

There are 17 people in the nursing department and 3 supervisory nurses.

As a state-sponsored visiting scholar, the head of the department visited Boston Children's Hospital, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and Children's Hospital of Dallas, the famous children's urological treatment centers in the United States, and brought back international advanced diagnosis and treatment concepts and applied them in clinical work.

Scientific research and teaching: The department has one master's degree supervisor and one visiting scholar appointed by the China Scholarship Council.

The key members of the department have presided over two general projects of the Tianjin Natural Science Foundation, two key projects of the Municipal Health Commission Science and Technology Fund, and two general projects. They have participated in the National High-tech Research and Development Program (863 Plan) and a number of national, municipal and health commission scientific and technological research projects. They have obtained multiple research results and filled the city's medical technology gaps. They have high attainments in professional fields.

Participated in the editing of "Modern Urology" and "Practical Urinary Diversion and Urinary Tract Reconstructive Surgery", and published more than 50 papers in core journals such as SCI and Chinese.

Train dozens of graduate students and regular trainees.

Key team: Chief Physician: Guan Yong Deputy Chief Physician: Wang Xin Senior Attending Physician: Wu Yong Attending Physician: Ma Xiong and Zhang Dongzheng Chief Resident Physician: Wang Cong Resident Physician: Zhang Zhenhua, Ma Yukun, Wei Baolong Urology Clinic Time: Guan Yong: Urology specialist clinic in Longyan Campus on Friday morning, special urology specialist clinic in Longyan Campus on Thursday afternoon and Friday afternoon Wang Xin: Tuesday afternoon in Longyan Campus, Monday morning in Machang Campus Wu Yong: Longyan campus on Thursday morning, Machang campus on Tuesday morning. General consultation: Longyan campus consultation time is subject to the hospital's announcement on the day. The predecessor of the general surgery (urology, etc.) is the urology department. It is currently a surgical diagnosis and treatment department in Tianjin that mainly specializes in childhood genitourinary system (mainly including adrenal glands, kidneys, ureters, bladder, testicles, ovaries, penis, scrotum and other organs) deformities, tumors, trauma and inflammation.

The undergraduate department was established in the 1980s, with Director Sun Wenrong as the first administrative director.

Under the care of the hospital leaders, the department has continued to grow. He has gone to the United States and Canada to study, and the business has steadily entered a systematic and formal development.

From 2000 to 2001, Chief Physician Xu Guodong was sent by the then Tianjin Municipal Health Bureau to Kameda General Hospital in Japan to study urology.

After returning to China, he combined the knowledge he learned with his professional experience and carried out a number of clinical innovations in diagnosis and treatment. Five new technologies have been identified by the municipal expert group as projects to fill the new technology gaps in Tianjin.

At the same time, the internationally advanced minimally invasive laparoscopic technology has been applied to this specialty. Since 2002, it has been the first in China to use laparoscopy to perform high spermatic artery and vein ligation, high hernia sac ligation, high cryptorchidism exploration and fixation, gonad exploration and biopsy, dysplastic nephrectomy, adrenal tumor resection, pneumatic cystoscopic lithotomy, etc.

Also in 2002, Xu Guodong was promoted to deputy chief physician and hired as the second administrative director of the Department of Urology (the old director retired).

Under the leadership of Director Xu, the medical staff study their business seriously and actively participate in domestic and foreign academic exchanges every year. The department's medical, teaching, and research levels continue to improve, especially in minimally invasive surgical techniques. In recent years, they have become proficient in the precise diagnosis and treatment of common diseases of the genitourinary system with minimally invasive techniques such as peritoneoscopy, retrolaparoscopy, pneumatic cystoscopy, and cystourethroscopy.

These minimally invasive surgical techniques provide high-quality treatment with less trauma and shorter hospitalization time, significantly reducing the suffering of children, and are very popular among parents.

In addition, we have very rich clinical experience in traditional surgeries such as hypospadias urethroplasty, urethral anastomosis, neonatal hydronephrosis micro-incision pyeloplasty, etc.

According to the overall plan of the hospital, the Department of Urology was moved from Longyan Campus to the renovated Machang Campus in March 2020. After moving to the newly opened Machang Campus, the department expanded its business scope and was renamed Comprehensive Surgery (Urology, etc.).

Later, with the support and help of the hospital leaders, the department further developed and expanded. The current ward has expanded to two, with 62 hospital beds, an annual outpatient volume of more than 40,000, and an annual operation volume of more than 4,000. The department's doctors are reasonably equipped and strong: the consultant is Chief Physician Zhang Fuyi (retired from retirement);

The department director is Chief Physician Xu Guodong;

There are 4 attending physicians, namely Chief Physician Meng Qingya (PhD candidate), Deputy Chief Physician Xu Haihua (PhD candidate), Deputy Chief Physician Chen Ziying (Master of Medicine), and Deputy Chief Physician Wang Xiaojia (Master of Medicine);

The seven resident doctors are all masters of medicine, including attending physician Liu Lili, attending physician Li Xiaoxia, physician Liu Xiaobo, physician Zhao Geqing, physician Zhang Xin, physician Li Siyu, physician Hu Jinmeng, and other surgeons in the rotating department.

Over the past 40 years since its establishment, the department has formed a set of high-quality diagnosis and treatment plans through continuous efforts, and its medical business level has remained at the forefront of the country without any medical accidents.

With the continuous improvement of the cure rate, the source of the disease has spread to all provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions across the country. Every year, many children patients receive good treatment, and the social benefits are obvious.

In the future, this specialty will continue to work hard to maintain the advantages of traditional surgery, improve the minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery of this specialty, actively carry out and introduce new technologies, pay attention to improving the diagnosis and treatment of difficult clinical cases, and protect the health of the flowers of the motherland.
