CARDIAC SURGERY

The Cardiac Surgery Department of Tianjin Children's Hospital was established in 1985. Based on the animal experiments of extracorporeal bypass open-heart surgery, it successfully completed the first extracorporeal bypass open-heart surgery to repair atrial septal defect in 1986. It was one of the first hospitals in Tianjin to carry out congenital heart surgery. More than 3,000 children have been cured so far.

After more than 30 years of continuous development, the current treatment of common, frequently-occurring and difficult diseases in children with congenital heart disease has reached the domestic advanced level.

Currently, the cardiac surgery department adopts the heart center model, with medical and surgical cooperation, adhering to the internationally advanced popular concepts, minimally invasive interventional treatment is preferred for simple congenital heart disease, and surgical methods are used for critical and complex congenital heart disease, forming an integrated process of medical diagnosis and treatment, surgery and postoperative monitoring. At the same time, with the multidisciplinary technical advantages of the children's specialty of Tianjin Children's Hospital, multidisciplinary linkage provides MDT diagnosis and treatment model for each patient and formulates the best treatment plan.

The Cardiac Surgery Ward is located in Ward C4 of the Machang Campus of Tianjin Children's Hospital, with 28 beds. The department currently has 4 surgeons, including 2 physicians with senior professional titles, 1 attending physician, 1 resident physician, and 8 internal medicine physicians, including 3 physicians with senior professional titles, 2 attending physicians, and 3 residents. All doctors have a master's degree or above.

The cardiac professional nursing team has 18 people, including 6 cardiac intensive care nurses, all of whom have further studies in children's cardiac hospitals such as Beijing and Shanghai, forming an independent department with a reasonable talent echelon.

The department mainly treats complex and simple congenital heart diseases, lymphangiomas, hemangiomas, arteriovenous malformations and other peripheral vascular diseases, myocarditis, cardiomyopathy, Kawasaki disease, heart failure, arrhythmia and various common medical diseases in children. It has rich experience in the treatment of critical congenital heart diseases in young people, low weight, pneumonia and heart failure.

For example, the surgical emergency treatment of large ventricular septal defect in young infants combined with severe pulmonary hypertension and unclosed ductus arteriosus in newborns and premature infants with refractory heart failure has a high success rate and significant effects.

The treatment of complex congenital heart diseases such as tetralogy of Fallot, endocardial cushion defect, complete anomalous pulmonary venous drainage, tricuspid valve malformation and right ventricular double outlet has also been successfully carried out. The minimum age for cardiopulmonary bypass is 2 months, the minimum weight is 3.1Kg, and the total surgical mortality rate is less than 1%.

The Department of Cardiac Surgery strives to become a department that integrates medical care, scientific research and teaching, and trains many visiting physicians, clinical interns and standardized training residents.

Doctors in the department have participated in many exchanges and studies at well-known heart centers at home and abroad, bringing back advanced treatment concepts and technologies to help the department develop and grow.

Many people in the department share the positions of standing committee members and committee members of the Cardiac Surgery Branch of Tianjin Medical Association and Physician Association.

In 1996, "Research on the Treatment of Heart Failure in Infants with Isolated Patent Ductus Arteriosus during Emergency Surgery" won the third prize of Science and Technology Progress Award from the Health Bureau;

In 2000, the new technology "Right Underarm Small Incision Extracorporeal Bypass Open Heart Surgery" was introduced to fill the gap in Tianjin;

In 2018, the bureau-level projects "Research on markers for early detection of AKI after CPB surgery for acyanotic congenital heart disease in children" and "Research on changes in indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase after cardiopulmonary bypass for congenital heart disease" both successfully passed the identification and achievement certification.

He has published more than 20 papers in domestic core and professional journals.

Served as a teaching staff in undergraduate and pediatric clinical classes of Tianjin Medical University.
