Otolaryngology Department

The Department of Otolaryngology of Tianjin Children's Hospital was established in March 1958. It is the founder and birthplace of pediatric otolaryngology in my country, with a long history and strong strength.

It has held many national pediatric otolaryngology study classes and trained many backbones of pediatric otolaryngology business across the country.

Innovation and Technology has been developing and growing for more than 60 years.

Currently, both Machang and Longyan hospitals have wards, outpatient clinics, 24-hour emergency department, and are responsible for consultation and rescue inside and outside the hospital.

The two hospitals have a total of more than 50 beds and 38 medical technicians, including 11 with senior professional titles, more than 20 with master's degrees or above, 6 outpatient nurses and 42 ward nurses.

The number of outpatient and emergency visits reaches 180,000 per year, and 4,000 inpatient surgeries are performed per year.

The department has a complete set of hearing testing equipment, complete sleep monitoring equipment, clear various endoscopy equipment, advanced plasma surgery systems, sophisticated surgical microscopes and other equipment.

It can provide complete diagnosis and treatment plans for common diseases and frequently-occurring diseases in children's otolaryngology.

In recent years, the department has also carried out genetic testing for congenital deafness and craniofacial malformations, and is committed to the diagnosis and treatment of difficult and rare diseases in the field of children's otolaryngology.

The department routinely performs surgeries such as plasma radiofrequency ablation technology to remove tonsils and adenoids to treat snoring in children, eardrum incision/tubing under otoscope (or microscope) to treat secretory otitis media, bronchoscopy and foreign body removal to treat tracheal foreign bodies, esophagoscopy and foreign body removal to treat esophageal foreign bodies, and removal of tumors in various parts of the ear, nose, throat, head and neck, and other surgeries.

In recent years, the department has made great progress in the subdivisions of children's otology, rhinology, throat surgery and head and neck plastic surgery.

Among them, the otology department has carried out minimally invasive surgeries such as cochlear implantation, children's cholesteatoma resection combined with radical mastoidectomy and hearing reconstruction surgery, endoscopic tympanic membrane repair, and external auditory canal cholesteatoma resection;

In the rhinology department, nasal polyp resection and sinus opening, endoscopic sinus opening and orbital decompression surgery for choanal atresia and stenosis, sinusitis complicated by periorbital cellulitis, and endoscopic sinus opening and orbital decompression are performed;

The Department of Pharyngology has carried out minimally invasive surgical treatment of congenital laryngomalacia, endoscopic minimally invasive surgery of congenital pyriform fistula, laryngeal papilloma resection, etc.;

In the direction of head and neck plastic surgery, we carry out resection and repair surgery of head and neck tumors, plastic surgery for congenital microtia, and plastic surgery for various auricle deformities.

Our department has 13 scientific and technological achievements since its establishment, and 7 have won awards;

Introduced 15 new technologies;

Chief editor or co-editor of 9 books;

Published more than 100 papers.

In recent years, our department has published more than 20 core journal articles;

sci: 10 articles;

Served as the Municipal Science and Technology Committee, Municipal Health Commission and various hospital-level projects.

The department must always adhere to the hospital's purpose of "being patient-centered and serving children wholeheartedly."
