Neonatal Surgery
Tianjin Children's Hospital
The Neonatal Surgery Department of Tianjin Children's Hospital was founded in 1983. It is currently the only medical team in Tianjin dedicated to the treatment of congenital structural malformations in newborns. Its professional and technical capabilities are ranked first in the country.
There are currently two wards, C3 in Machang Campus and B3 in Beichen Campus. Both wards have permanent specialist outpatient clinics.
This specialty has 2 chief physicians, 2 deputy chief physicians, 2 attending physicians, and 8 resident physicians.
The annual number of neonatal surgery patients is nearly 5,000, and the annual operation volume is more than 1,000. Level 4 surgeries account for nearly 20%. The main diseases treated are various congenital malformations, tumors and infectious diseases. The main technical advantage is reflected in the application of minimally invasive techniques (thoracoscopy, laparoscopy) to treat various congenital malformations.
Our department took the lead in carrying out minimally invasive surgery in 2000. Currently, Director Hu Bo of the department leads a team to apply thoraco-laparoscopic technology to treat neonatal esophageal malformations, diaphragmatic malformations, bile duct malformations, difficult anorectal malformations, teratomas, hernias, cryptorchidism and other diseases, which has generated huge social benefits and enabled the majority of children to benefit from the rapid development of contemporary medical technology.
At the same time, it has made repeated breakthroughs in the treatment of premature low-birth-weight infants and difficult and critically ill newborns, bringing the minimum weight of children undergoing surgical treatment in our city to 800g.
Laparoscopic surgery for premature low-birth-weight infants, gastrointestinal malformation surgery for extremely low-birth-weight infants, separation surgery for conjoined infants, resection of giant solid tumors, and combined thoraco-laparoscopic surgery have been fully carried out. At present, nearly 80% of the body cavity surgeries in the department have completed the minimally invasive process, filling more than ten technical gaps in the field of neonatal surgery in our city, and the technical level is in a leading position in the country.
The neonatal surgery department provides solid surgical support to the maternity centers in Tianjin and surrounding areas. It provides pregnancy consultation and guidance for congenital structural malformations discovered during prenatal examinations, and is connected with the maternity center so that patients can receive timely and effective co-operative medical and surgical treatment after birth, achieving a seamless connection between pregnancy, examination, diagnosis, delivery and treatment.
At the same time, the department accepts difficult and critically ill children transferred from all over the country, and treats patients from more than 20 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions across the country.
Director Hu Bo, the subject leader, was the first in China to construct the derivation relationship of neonatal pneumoperitoneum pressure function, participated in the compilation of NEC surgical diagnosis and treatment guidelines of the Chinese Medical Association Neonatal Surgery Branch, participated in the registration and review of national infant formula for special medical purposes, and provided guidance on the clinical application of formula for special medical purposes.
He has published more than 20 first-author papers in core journals, hosted and participated in 3 bureau-level and municipal science and technology committee projects, obtained 3 results, filled 9 medical technology gaps in Tianjin, and obtained 1 patent.
Members of the department have published more than 50 articles as first authors.
