The Endoscopy Department of Tianjin Medical University Cancer Hospital is a tertiary-level cancer specialist hospital that integrates medicine, teaching, research and prevention. It is a national cancer medical research center. The Endoscopy Diagnosis and Treatment Department uses the hospital as a platform and is committed to tumor prevention and early diagnosis and early examination;

Currently, under the leadership of Director Zhou Dejun, a doctor of surgery, the department has a total of 14 physicians, including 3 chief physicians, 1 deputy chief physician, 4 attending physicians, and 6 physicians;

Among them, there are 2 doctors and 8 masters, and the department continues to recruit high-quality members to improve the knowledge and talent reserves.

The current professional layout of the department is: gastroscopy room, colonoscopy room, laryngoscopy room, bronchoscopy room, endoscopic ultrasonic room, painless examination room, etc. It is equipped with 8 sets of electronic endoscope mainframes and dozens of high-definition electronic gastrointestinal scopes, electronic nasopharyngeal bronchoscopes, ultrasonic endoscopes, duodenoscopes, as well as microwave, high-frequency electrocoagulation and resection equipment and argon gas knives.

In 2017, the Endoscopy Department diagnosed and treated nearly 37,000 patients every year. It not only carries out routine examinations such as gastroscopy, colonoscopy, nasopharyngolaryngoscopy, and bronchoscopy to provide clinical departments with accurate examinations, detailed reports, and important diagnosis and treatment information. In recent years, it has also carried out painless endoscopy to meet the needs of more patients.

The department performs dilation, stent placement and other treatments for stenotic lesions. The department is now proficient in the placement of nutrition tubes (including percutaneous endoscopic jejunostomy PEG/PEJ, etc.), post-operative bleeding treatment of the gastrointestinal tract (injections, hemostatic clips, etc.), foreign body removal, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) and related treatments.

The technical backbone of the department continues to delve into the business and is proficient in the diagnosis and treatment of early tumors of the gastrointestinal tract and respiratory tract. In recent years, it has carried out endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR), endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) and other procedures for the diagnosis and treatment of precancerous lesions and tumors in the gastrointestinal tract and respiratory tract, and has achieved good clinical results and unanimous praise.

Since then, the department has successively carried out minimally invasive techniques such as endoscopic excision (ESE), endoscopic submucosal tunnel resection (STER), and endoscopic full-layer resection (EFR), which have achieved the expected results and significantly reduced patients' pain.

The department completes more than 2,000 endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) cases every year, providing more compliant, efficient, humane and high-quality services for early diagnosis and treatment of tumors as well as palliative care for advanced patients.

In 2018, the new outpatient building of Tianjin Cancer Hospital will be put into use, and the first phase of the endoscopic diagnosis and treatment center will be put into use with an area of ​​2,000 square meters. New diagnosis and treatment technologies such as Haibo knife, electromagnetic navigation, medical thoracoscopy, and bronchoscopy cryotherapy will continue to bring benefits to more patients.
