Ultrasound Diagnostic Department

The Ultrasound Diagnostic Department of Tianjin Medical University Cancer Hospital was founded in 1980 to focus on ultrasonic diagnosis and ultrasound-guided interventional treatment of tumor patients.

After decades of development, the Department of Ultrasound Diagnosis has developed into a comprehensive discipline with sophisticated instruments and equipment, strong technical force, exquisite diagnostic skills, and coordinated development of academic and scientific research transformation.

As of the end of 2021, there are currently 35 general medical staff, including 30 doctors (nearly 90% have doctoral and master's degrees, including 3 with senior professional titles and 5 with deputy senior professional titles) and 5 nurses;

It has 15 outpatient ultrasound clinics, 9 inpatient ultrasound clinics, 1 special-needs expert ultrasound clinic, and 3 interventional operating rooms. It receives approximately 240,000 patients annually and performs more than 15,000 puncture and interventional treatments, providing reliable clinical diagnostic basis.

In addition to routine examinations of the abdomen, pelvis, urology, head and neck, breast and other parts of the body, as the first ultrasound diagnosis and treatment department in Tianjin to carry out interventional ultrasound technology (including ultrasound-guided puncture, thermal ablation therapy, chemical ablation therapy, particle implantation, thoracoabdominal tube drainage, PTCD, etc.), it has attracted a large number of patients both inside and outside the hospital and has been integrated into the regional tumor diagnosis and treatment center.

The Department of Ultrasound Diagnosis keeps up with domestic and foreign research trends, uses superficial organ tumors as a breakthrough, and develops new diagnosis and treatment technologies, including AI-assisted diagnosis, ultrasound contrast, elastography, three-dimensional imaging, image fusion imaging navigation technology, SMI technology, etc. It has established a complete and standardized diagnosis process, formed a superior discipline, and has been promoted and applied in many medical centers.

The department strives to gradually advance the transformation direction of scientific research, and its achievements have won the Tianjin Science and Technology Progress Award and the China Anti-Cancer Association Science and Technology Award.

In terms of teaching, the department is responsible for the training of undergraduates and postgraduates of Tianjin Medical University. It is also the first standardized training base for resident doctors in Tianjin. It also accepts domestic clinical and imaging doctors for further study. It trains 4-6 postgraduates every year and trains more than ten doctors with standardized training.

At the same time, it actively participates in academic exchanges and promotions, and has held many Tianjin Head and Neck Imaging Ultrasound Diagnostic Study Classes, National Oncology Study Classes, and National Ultrasound and Oncology Academic Conferences for academic exchanges, and occasionally sends young doctors to hospitals with leading professional and technical levels at home and abroad for further study.

In terms of scientific research, as of the end of 2021, more than 130 academic papers have been published, including more than 60 SCI papers. The first artificial intelligence diagnosis article on benign and malignant thyroid nodules was published in the journal "Lancet. Oncology" and has been unanimously recognized by domestic and foreign scholars.

He has presided over more than 10 National Natural Science Foundation, municipal bureau-level projects and major special projects. He has won the second prize for innovative new technology achievements of the Medical University twice. He has compiled the "Ultrasound Diagnosis and Pathology Comparison Atlas of Superficial Soft Tissue Diseases" and "Ultrasound Diagnosis Atlas of Common Neck Tumors", which has certain guiding significance for the daily work of medical colleagues.

He also participated in the preparation of diagnosis and treatment guidelines such as "Expert Consensus on Several Common Clinical Issues in Breast Ultrasound (2018 Edition)", "Expert Consensus on Several Common Clinical Issues in Ultrasound of Thyroid and Related Cervical Lymph Nodes (2018 Edition)", and "2020 Chinese Guidelines for Ultrasound Risk Stratification of Thyroid Nodules: C-TIRADS".

The department applied for 3 national invention patents and was approved for 1 national invention patent.

The department has participated in the screening of liver tumors in Tianjin for many years, and has selected personnel to participate in the National Health Commission's technical training on ultrasonic diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer for rural women, etc., to help Tianjin's medical and health undertakings. At the same time, our department has repeatedly selected personnel to participate in assistance activities in Gannan, Gansu, Qamdu, Tibet, Luliang, Shanxi and other places to improve local medical technology.
