Anesthesiology Department

The development of the Anesthesiology Department of Tianjin Medical University Cancer Hospital began in 1959, with the late Director Zhang Chongguang starting to study and carry out anesthesia work.

In 1961, the hospital established an anesthesia team, which was subordinate to the surgical management.

In 1978, the anesthesia team was officially transformed into a secondary clinical discipline and carried out general anesthesia, spinal anesthesia, nerve block and acupuncture combined anesthesia for adults and children.

The anesthesiology department currently has 75 medical staff, including 64 anesthesiologists and 11 anesthetists.

Among them, there is 1 doctoral supervisor, 2 master's supervisors, 15 with doctoral degrees, 32 with master's degrees, and more than 10 people have overseas clinical specialist, visiting or postdoctoral training experience.

After more than 60 years of development, the Department of Anesthesiology has continued to grow under the leadership of successive department directors, Director Zhang Chongguang, Director Gao Lubo, Director Li Jincheng, Director Zhao Hongwei, and Director Yin Yiqing, and has made great progress in clinical work, scientific research and teaching.

The Department of Anesthesiology completes more than 36,000 anesthesia cases in various operating rooms of the hospital every year, and more than 4,000 anesthesia cases outside the operating room for painless gastroenteroscopy and treatment, interventional treatment and other surgeries and examinations. It also excellently completes various tasks of aiding Xinjiang, Tibet and fighting the epidemic.

The Anesthesiology Department has established a postoperative recovery room since 2012, and currently has 36 beds, fully meeting the needs of patients for postoperative recovery.

In 2019, an anesthesia clinic was opened to provide perioperative education, evaluation and other medical services.

In addition, the anesthesiology department is also responsible for the rescue and intubation work of all departments in the hospital, playing an indispensable role in the first aid of critical patients.

In recent years, the Department of Anesthesiology has continuously strengthened management and improved its clinical business capabilities, actively cooperated with the needs of various surgical departments, and developed and progressed together with the Department of Surgery.

In clinical work, clinical technologies such as visual endotracheal intubation and anesthesia depth monitoring in all operating rooms have been implemented, and precise anesthesia technologies such as perioperative coagulation function monitoring, cardiac output monitoring (FloTrac), muscle relaxation monitoring, closed-loop target-controlled infusion, and infusion warming have been carried out.

Especially with the rise and development of enhanced recovery surgery (ERAS) and day surgery, the anesthesiology department has actively carried out various nerve block techniques such as ultrasound-guided transversus abdominis plane block (TAP), paravertebral nerve block, brachial plexus block, and thoracic nerve block, which have improved the postoperative analgesia for patients, reduced the adverse reactions of postoperative nausea and vomiting, and thus better promoted the postoperative recovery of patients.

In addition, the Department of Anesthesiology has accumulated rich experience in disciplinary features such as difficult airway management, ultrasound-guided nerve block, single-lung management in thoracic surgery, anesthesia for robotic surgery, pheochromocytoma surgery, and anesthetic management of pediatric and elderly patients with severe tumors.

In terms of scientific research, the Department of Anesthesiology currently undertakes 7 National Natural Science Foundation projects, 1 project each from the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security and the Central Ministry of Health, 2 provincial and ministerial-level projects, and a number of bureau-school-level, college-level and horizontal projects under research and completed.

He has conducted in-depth research on perioperative cognitive dysfunction and organ protection, research on the mechanisms of cancer pain, and the effects of anesthesia on tumor metastasis, recurrence, and hyperalgesia.

The department has published more than 50 academic articles of various types in the past five years, and more than 30 articles have been included in SCI.

In terms of teaching, the Department of Anesthesiology is the internship unit for postgraduate and undergraduate students of Tianjin Medical University's anesthesia major. It also accepts the study and training of anesthesiologists from all over the country.

As a member of the Cancer Anesthesia and Analgesia Professional Committee of the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association, the Department of Anesthesiology is in line with international standards and has held many municipal academic conferences and training courses to provide a good academic platform for the professional development of tumor anesthesia and analgesia.

In recent years, the Department of Anesthesiology has sent medical staff, mainly young doctors, to study and exchange abroad many times. Currently, there are many doctors in the department serving in different academic groups, which has established a good platform for expanding the influence of the department.

The subject leader, Director Yin Yiqing, is currently a member of the Standing Committee of the Thoracic Anesthesia Branch of the Chinese Society of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia, a national member of the Non-cardiac Surgery Anesthesia Branch of the Chinese Society of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia, a member of the Anesthesiology Professional Committee of the Beijing Oncology Society, and a scientific and technological expert of the Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission.

"Safety, harmony, rigor, and innovation" are the purposes of the cultural construction of the anesthesiology department. The department always stays true to its original intention and mission, leads the development of the department, and creates a good working atmosphere in the department.

In the star service selection, the Anesthesiology Department has been rated as the hospital's annual five-star department for many consecutive years.

At the same time, the vanguard party members of the Department of Anesthesia took the lead in setting an example and played an exemplary and leading role in all the work of the department.

Directors of the Department of Anesthesiology, including Li Jincheng, Ma Changqing, Wang Weihang, Zhang Fengwen, Guo Bing, Yang Shaoyong, Xu Kuibin, and Guo Dongyong, have been recognized and praised by many parties for their dedication and dedicated service to patients in the special work of aiding Xinjiang, Tibet, and fighting SARS.
