Nutrition Department

Tianjin Medical University Cancer Hospital

The Nutrition Department of Tianjin Medical University Cancer Hospital is a department specializing in nutritional diagnosis and treatment of cancer patients.

Founded in 2014, Director Wang Kun leads the nutrition department team to always be patient-centered and take the development of tumor nutrition as its own responsibility, and carry out extensive work in medical treatment, teaching, and scientific research.

After several years of development, the department has initially formed the disciplinary characteristics of nutritional assessment, nutritional diagnosis, and nutritional treatment. It is the first in China to carry out a home-based nutritional diagnosis and treatment model for cancer patients, and is also one of the first batch of "National Standardized Tumor Nutritional Treatment Demonstration Wards" of the China Anti-Cancer Association.

The Department of Nutrition currently has 10 professionals, including 1 with senior professional titles, 2 with intermediate professional titles, and 7 with junior professional titles.

A professional team including nutrition doctors, nutrition nurses, nutrition technicians, etc. has been formed.

The nutrition department has a complete nutrition screening and evaluation system, and can provide individualized nutrition diagnosis and treatment plans to patients at different stages of anti-tumor treatment.

For patients with nutritional and metabolic disorders, nutritional physical examination and anthropometric measurements, triceps skinfold thickness, grip strength, body composition analysis, resting energy consumption measurement, and laboratory examinations are performed to make nutritional diagnosis. Then, by determining appropriate nutrient requirements, parenteral nutrition, enteral nutrition, dietary nutrition and other treatment methods are used to adjust, and food models are used to help patients establish quantitative concepts.

The nutrition clinic is responsible for the nutritional evaluation, nutritional diagnosis, and nutritional treatment of people suffering from malnutrition caused by various reasons such as diabetes, hyperlipidemia, and obesity during the perioperative period, perichemotherapy period, periradiation therapy period, and diabetes, hyperlipidemia, and obesity after discharge.

The Nutrition Department has a nutritional metabolism testing room, which mainly completes nutritional assessments such as patient's anthropometry (height, weight, circumference, grip strength, skinfold thickness, etc.), nutritional physical examination, energy metabolism testing, body composition analysis, etc. It can discover malnutrition problems in cancer patients and provide basis for nutritional diagnosis and treatment.

The Department of Nutrition has established an enteral nutrition preparation room, which is mainly responsible for the preparation of nutritional solutions and homogenized meals for inpatient and outpatient patients with oral insufficiency, nasogastric (intestinal) tubes, and gastrointestinal fistula patients. There are standardized SOPs, in accordance with food and drug compatibility contraindications, aseptic technology and operating specifications for preparation, and completion of the preparation of enteral nutrition solutions and oral nutritional supplements.

The preparation room covers an area of 100m2 and is divided into four areas, including the scrubbing and disinfection area, the preparation area, the cooking area, the distribution area, etc. Each area is equipped with corresponding facilities and equipment.

While completing clinical work, the department actively carries out research on nutritional metabolism, clinical diagnosis and treatment of tumor diseases, and improves the nutritional assessment system;

The research results provide a basis for the formulation of nutritional diagnosis and treatment standards for cancer patients.

Establish an information system for nutritional diagnosis and treatment follow-up of cancer patients to build a platform for long-term and multi-center research.

Now he has undertaken 4 college-level projects and published 4 papers in the past two years, including 1 included in SCI.
