Department of Digestive Oncology

The Department of Gastroenterology and Oncology of Tianjin Medical University Cancer Hospital is one of the earliest specialized cancer departments established in China, focusing on the diagnosis, treatment and basic research of digestive system tumors.

Professor Bayi, the subject leader, adheres to the concept of international standardized diagnosis and treatment and has established a professional and intensive digestive system tumor diagnosis and treatment team, dedicated to providing standardized professional treatment and unique individualized treatment to the majority of patients.

We have accumulated rich experience in the adjuvant treatment and neoadjuvant treatment of malignant tumors of the digestive tract (including esophageal cancer, gastric cancer, colorectal cancer, pancreatic cancer, liver and biliary system tumors, gastrointestinal stromal tumors, neuroendocrine tumors, etc.), as well as drug therapy (chemotherapy, targeted therapy and immunotherapy), comprehensive treatment and individualized treatment for patients with advanced tumors. The treatment level is in the leading position in the country and has become a well-known professional team for digestive tract tumors in the country.

The department currently has 65 fixed beds, more than 30 medical staff, and receives nearly 20,000 patients every year. Patients come from all over the country and at home and abroad.

The department has developed rapidly since its establishment and has strong professional and technical strength. It consists of a team of young and middle-aged key doctors with an active academic atmosphere, including 10 with doctorate degrees and 4 with master's degrees;

There are 1 professor/chief physician, 3 associate professors/deputy chief physicians, 5 attending physicians, and 4 resident physicians.

The department attaches great importance to talent cultivation and participates in large-scale international and domestic oncology academic conferences every year. It regularly selects team members to study and visit well-known foreign cancer centers to continuously improve the professional level of team members.

The department actively promotes multidisciplinary comprehensive treatment of digestive system tumors and takes the lead in carrying out MDT (multidisciplinary collaboration) comprehensive diagnosis and treatment in Tianjin, promoting the standardization process of digestive system tumor treatment in Tianjin.

At the same time, on the basis of daily clinical work, the department undertakes a large amount of clinical research work on new anti-tumor drugs every year. In the past five years, it has designed, undertaken and participated in more than 40 national and global multi-center clinical studies, in order to provide more treatment options and greater survival benefits for cancer patients.

As a training center for doctoral and master's students of Tianjin Medical University, the Department of Gastroenterology and Oncology is responsible for teaching doctoral students, master's students and international students. It currently has 1 doctoral supervisor and 2 master's supervisors. It trains several oncology professionals for oncology specialties across the country every year, and attracts a large number of oncology specialists from all over the country to come for further study.

Professor Bayi, the subject leader, has been rated as a "New Century Talent" by the Ministry of Education, a "National Talent" by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, a Tianjin 131 Innovative Talent, a leading scientific and technological talent in Tianjin Cancer Hospital, and enjoys special allowances from the State Council.

As a member of the Colorectal Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment Pathway Development Committee of the Department of Medical Affairs of the Ministry of Health, Professor Ba participates in the revision of international and domestic diagnosis and treatment standards for colorectal cancer every year.

In recent years, he has led the department team to obtain more than 10 national, provincial and ministerial-level projects, and published more than 50 SCI papers as the corresponding author in high-level international authoritative academic journals such as Nature Communications and CLINICAL CHEMISTRY.

As the first completer, he led the team to win scientific research awards such as the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association Science and Technology Award, the Chinese Medical Science and Technology Award, the Chinese Medical Science and Technology Award, and the Tianjin Science and Technology Progress Award, etc., making important contributions to promoting the development of clinical diagnosis and treatment of digestive tract tumors and basic translational research.
