Pulmonary Tumor Department
Tianjin Medical University Cancer Hospital
The Department of Pulmonary Oncology of Tianjin Medical University Cancer Hospital is one of the earliest teams in China to carry out multidisciplinary comprehensive treatment of a single type of lung cancer. In 1998, the department was established as the third department of internal oncology and renamed the Department of Pulmonary Oncology in 2006. It is a clinical department characterized by lung tumor diagnosis, differential diagnosis, chemotherapy, molecular targeted therapy, immunotherapy, clinical research on new anti-cancer drugs and multidisciplinary comprehensive treatment.
Tailor-made individualized treatment plans are provided for patients. Lung cancer diagnosis and medical treatment are at the domestic first-class level, and the diagnosis and treatment model is in line with international standards.
The Department of Pulmonary Medicine has a total of 74 beds and 35 medical staff, including 15 physicians, 1 clinical researcher, 5 technicians with senior professional titles, and 3 technicians with deputy senior professional titles. The department has successively undertaken National Natural Science Foundation projects, Tianjin Municipal Education Commission and Science and Technology Commission, bureau-level, and school-level scientific research projects. It has published hundreds of papers in domestic and foreign journals, including more than 100 SCI-included papers.
As a national-level clinical research base for new anti-cancer drugs, the Department of Pulmonary Medicine has followed new international development trends over the years and has hosted or participated in dozens of new drug clinical trials of anti-cancer drugs. The number and quality of enrollment ranks among the top in the country. It is currently conducting multiple international and domestic clinical studies of new drugs and related topics.
The department led a phase III study (ALTER0303) to evaluate the efficacy and safety of anlotinib as a third-line treatment for advanced NSCLC. The results of the study have received widespread international recognition and attention, injecting fresh power into anti-angiogenic therapy and bringing new breakthroughs to the third-line treatment of advanced non-small cell lung cancer. It not only benefits patients, but also provides new treatment options for clinicians.
Currently, a Phase III clinical trial of BGB-A317 (anti-PD-1 antibody) versus docetaxel for the second-line and above treatment of advanced NSCLC and a Phase II clinical trial of anlotinib as a third-line and above treatment for small cell lung cancer are currently being carried out.
In the future, we will further evaluate anlotinib as a second-line treatment for advanced NSCLC, anlotinib combined with icotinib as a first-line treatment for EGFR mutated advanced NSCLC, and a series of translational and clinical studies on small cell lung cancer, and clinical studies on immunotherapy.
As a training center for doctoral and master's students of Tianjin Medical University, the department has 2 doctoral supervisors and 3 master's supervisors.
It is responsible for teaching doctoral and master's degree students, undertaking academic exchanges and continuing education tasks for medical oncology across the country, attracting many oncology specialists and clinical pharmacists from all over the country to come for further studies, and training several oncology professionals for oncology specialties across the country every year.
