Breast Regeneration

The Breast Reconstruction Department of Tianjin Medical University Cancer Hospital is a breast tumor surgery department featuring breast reconstruction.

The department not only carries out various radical surgeries for breast cancer and comprehensive treatments for breast cancer, but also carries out breast reconstruction surgeries according to the needs of patients.

The department currently has 10 doctors, including 2 senior doctors, 2 deputy senior doctors, and 6 junior and intermediate doctors.

Since its establishment, the department has carried out standardized diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer with reference to international guidelines, and has carried out radical surgery, breast-conserving surgery, sentinel lymph node biopsy and other surgeries as well as comprehensive perioperative treatment. The treatment level is in sync with the international level.

As one of the earliest teams in China to carry out immediate breast reconstruction after breast cancer surgery, our department has completed more than 1,500 breast reconstruction surgeries since Professor Zhang Xuehui presided over the completion of the first pedicled TRAM flap breast reconstruction in 2001.

The successful implementation of free flap breast reconstruction surgery marks that our department’s breast reconstruction technology reaches the international level.

The immediate breast reconstruction performed by our department allows breast cancer patients to avoid the pain of breast loss while receiving standard radical breast cancer surgery and standardized treatment;

Delayed breast reconstruction allows patients who have undergone mastectomy to restore the perfect breast curve, rebuild patients' confidence, and truly realize the treatment model of biopsychosocial medicine.

1. Discipline characteristics and new technology development

Discipline Features: Provide comprehensive treatment for breast cancer patients, focusing on oncology surgery and featuring oncoplastic surgery.

Recently developed new technologies:

(1) Breast patch combined with prosthetic breast reconstruction: It can avoid damage to the donor site and effectively reduce the postoperative complication rate;

(2) ICG assessment and detection of skin flap blood supply: it can better observe and evaluate the blood supply of skin flaps, and effectively reduce the postoperative complication rate;

(3) Autologous fat transplantation: The patient's own fat can be used to trim and reconstruct the breast shape and improve the postoperative aesthetic effect.

2. Talent, scientific research development and construction

Since 2001, it has successfully hosted 9 national breast reconstruction study classes after breast cancer surgery, with nearly a thousand participants, making certain contributions to the popularization and promotion of breast reconstruction work in China.

Members of the department currently host 2 National Natural Science Foundation projects, 1 provincial scientific research project, and host or participate in multiple clinical trials.
