Esophageal Tumor Department

The Department of Esophageal Oncology of Tianjin Medical University Cancer Hospital is a professional department developed and established on the basis of the professional thoracic tumor treatment group established in my country. It is now the seat of the chairman unit of the Esophageal Cancer Professional Committee of the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association.

In 2012, it was rated as a national key specialty in thoracic surgery by the Ministry of Health. Currently, the department director, Professor Yu Zhentao, serves as the academic leader and serves as the chairman of the Esophageal Cancer Professional Committee of the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association and the chairman of the Tianjin Esophageal Cancer Professional Committee.

The Department of Esophageal Oncology not only inherits the superb surgical skills and rigorous work attitude of the older generation of medical workers, but also inherits the nationally renowned medical characteristics of the original Thoracic Surgery Department.

The Department of Esophageal Oncology currently has 80 beds and 15 professional and technical staff, including 4 chief physicians and 5 deputy chief physicians;

There is 1 doctoral supervisor, 9 doctoral students, and 4 master's students.

According to statistics, in 2017, there were more than 9,960 outpatients, more than 1,600 inpatients, and 500 thoracic surgeries of various types were completed.

The Department of Esophageal Oncology is good at the diagnosis and treatment of thoracic tumors, and performs routine radical esophageal cancer surgery, lung cancer surgery, cardia cancer radical surgery and mediastinal tumor resection.

Minimally invasive surgery was carried out earlier, and now the technology is mature, including thoracoscopy, laparoscopy and da Vinci robotic surgery. The proportion of minimally invasive surgery has reached 80%. It attaches great importance to the standardized dissection of regional lymph nodes. In addition, it is a national leader in preoperative neoadjuvant therapy and postoperative nutritional therapy. It regularly holds standardized training courses and has been recognized and praised by peers.

At the same time, it has also achieved a lot of achievements and valuable experience in the comprehensive treatment of esophageal cancer, cardiac cancer, lung cancer and mediastinal tumors. It has established good collaborative relationships with relevant departments in many centers across the country, and has led and participated in a number of domestic prospective clinical studies to ensure reasonable treatment of patients and achieve good results.

While actively doing clinical work, the undergraduate department has also conducted a large amount of basic research, undertaken 3 National Natural Science Foundation projects, and has many other research projects at all levels. It has won a number of national, provincial and ministerial level awards, has published more than 200 articles in SCI magazines and domestic core professional journals, and has trained more than 30 doctoral and master's degree graduate students.

In recent years, hundreds of training doctors from all over the country have been trained, and they are playing an active role in their respective jobs.
