Breast Oncology Department

The First Department of Breast Oncology of Tianjin Medical University Cancer Hospital was established in 1971. With the needs of division of clinical work and the deepening of medical reform, three departments of breast tumors were established on the original basis.

The First Department of Breast Oncology was established in 1998. The department is headed by Cao Xuchen. It currently has 10 professional and technical staff, including 2 chief physicians and 4 deputy chief physicians.

4 people hold doctorate and master's degrees.

There are 41 beds.

From the establishment of the department to 2003, the annual average number of outpatient visits was 2,300, the number of inpatients was 720, and the number of surgeries was 720.

The department has strong clinical technical strength, is well-known in the country for its proficiency in surgical expertise, and has a domestic breast tumor team.

Every year, a large number of breast tumor patients from all over the country come here, and various difficult surgical cases are completed every year, such as elderly breast cancer, advanced breast cancer, rare breast tumors, metastatic breast cancer, etc.

The department can complete nearly a thousand radical breast cancer surgeries every year. It also promotes a large number of breast-conserving surgeries and pioneers the nation's leading breast reconstruction and plastic surgery technologies.

Including breast reconstruction after breast cancer surgery, nipple and areola reconstruction, breast reduction surgery, etc., the development of breast-conserving surgery is in line with international breast cancer surgery plans.

The department has independently completed or cooperated with other departments and units to undertake 7 national, municipal, school-level and college-level projects, and won 3 municipal-level and bureau-level achievement awards.

Plastic surgery after radical mastectomy for breast cancer, including stage I and stage II, was completed in 43 cases.

Coarse needle biopsy technology reduces the pain of freezing during surgery and provides a basis for neoadjuvant chemotherapy.

The department has published 25 articles in core journals, participated in the preparation of 4 books, and edited "Breast Diseases and Clinical Basis".

Since it became a master's program in 1984, it has enrolled 14 7-year master's students from Tianjin Medical University and Nankai University School of Medicine, including 7 graduates and 7 current students.

Every year, we regularly recruit students from breast oncologist training courses organized by the Ministry of Health across the country to train senior breast oncologists for the country.

In 2003, with the approval of the Ministry of Health, a national continuing education class on “Breast Cancer Progress” was held.
