The medical level and academic status of the discipline enjoy a high reputation in the country, and the treatment of thyroid diseases with 131I has reached the domestic advanced level.

The subject research directions include research on the pathogenesis of thyroid disease, application research of nuclear technology in clinical work, and research on radionuclide treatment.

It has reached the national advanced level in radionuclide treatment of thyroid diseases, radionuclide imaging, and nuclear endocrine molecular level research.

The department has a total area of more than 2,000 square meters and is composed of nuclear medicine ward, SPECT examination room, functional examination room, color ultrasound room and molecular biology laboratory.

The department plays a guiding role in the national nuclear medicine industry standardization work, which reflects the further improvement of the nuclide treatment level of this discipline.

The clinical medical work of the discipline has been recognized by hospital leaders and employees of the hospital. In 2015, the department won the honorary title of "Top Ten Departments" of the General Hospital.

Based on a strong group foundation, the discipline has hosted 5 national conferences (2013 National Academic Conference on Nuclear Medicine Technology, 2015-2018 Nuclear Medicine Summit Forum), 1 regional conference (2008 Nuclear Medicine Academic Conference of Five Provinces and Municipalities in North China), and more than 10 regional conferences. By holding conferences, it has not only trained the team, but also expanded the influence of the discipline and the hospital in the country.

In the 2015 national ranking of Fudan University's statistical discipline influence, this discipline still ranked 13th in the country and 4th in North China even without the disadvantages of PET-CT and in vitro analysis, which is enough to prove the super strength of the Department of Nuclear Medicine in nuclide therapy, SPECT/CT imaging and scientific research.
