Medical Oncology Department
Tianjin Medical University General Hospital
The Department of Medical Oncology of Tianjin Medical University General Hospital is a clinical base integrating medical treatment, teaching, scientific research and prevention.
The department has a professional and high-level medical team, including 1 doctoral supervisor, 2 physicians with senior professional titles, 6 physicians with associate senior professional titles, 8 attending physicians, 12 physicians with doctorate degrees in medicine, and 6 Ph.D. candidates.
The Department of Medical Oncology has an annual outpatient volume of approximately 39,000, and the ward discharges approximately 3,000 patients annually.
The scope of medical oncology diagnosis and treatment includes lung cancer, digestive tract tumors (gastric cancer, intestinal cancer, pancreatic cancer, liver cancer), breast cancer, ovarian cancer and other tumors. It uses chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, and auxiliary tumor palliative care to provide full-course treatment management for patients, allowing patients to receive active anti-tumor treatment while ensuring a good quality of life.
Treatment in the department is carried out in accordance with international and domestic tumor treatment standard principles and guidelines. At the same time, it is closely integrated with the concept of precision medicine and genetic and molecular testing to achieve individual precision treatment under the guidance of standardized treatment.
Combined with the comprehensive strength of other disciplines of Tianjin Medical University General Hospital, the Department of Medical Oncology has established a multidisciplinary diagnosis and treatment (MDT) team for lung cancer, gastrointestinal tumors, gynecological tumors and other solid tumors, in order to provide patients with comprehensive and high-quality diagnosis and treatment services.
Hyperthermia is the sixth tumor treatment method after surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, targeted therapy and immunotherapy. When combined with radiotherapy and chemotherapy, it can achieve a therapeutic effect of 1+1>2.
The Department of Oncology uses the NRL-002 endogenous field tumor hyperthermia system with a temperature measurement accuracy of ±0.1°C. It can make deep tumor tissues reach the therapeutic temperature in a short time. It can treat deep solid tumors in the human chest, abdomen, and pelvis, as well as body surface tumors, such as lung cancer, lung metastasis cancer, esophageal cancer, gastric cancer, liver cancer, liver metastasis cancer, pancreatic cancer, colorectal cancer, breast cancer, cervical cancer, prostate cancer, skin cancer, etc. It can also reduce pleural and abdominal effusion and relieve intractable cancer pain.
The Department of Medical Oncology is currently involved in a number of large-scale international and domestic clinical studies, involving new molecular targeted drugs, PD-1/PD-L1 immunotherapy drugs, antiemetic drugs, bone marrow protective agents, etc. The clinical trials reflect the strength and influence of the department and also provide patients with the opportunity to use cutting-edge drugs for free.
While focusing on anti-tumor treatment, the Department of Medical Oncology is also more professional in terms of side effects and protection related to anti-tumor treatment.
The department is one of the few wards in Tianjin that provides full management of chemotherapy-related nausea and vomiting (CINV). We will formulate an effective anti-emetic plan based on the patient's disease and drug selection, and promptly handle the patient's condition after discharge.
In addition, we will also follow up patients with bone marrow suppression after chemotherapy and carry out active treatment.
The Department of Medical Oncology also has an ultrasound-guided venous catheterization team that can perform venous catheterization such as infusion ports, PICC placement, subclavian vein puncture, and femoral vein puncture, providing more optimized venous access options for chemotherapy patients to ensure the safety, comfort, and smooth progress of chemotherapy.
Palliative care of malignant tumors is also an important part of tumor treatment.
The Department of Medical Oncology uses comprehensive treatments to reduce the symptoms of cancer patients, provide patients with the best supportive care, and improve their quality of life.
The Department of Oncology is one of the first batch of joint hospital departments in Tianjin to “Standardize the Treatment of Cancer Pain Demonstration Ward” and “Standardize the Diagnosis and Treatment of Refractory Pain”. It has standardized cancer pain drug titration, dose adjustment and comprehensive treatment methods to effectively ensure the efficiency of cancer pain treatment and improve patients’ quality of life.
The Department of Medical Oncology also focuses on nutritional support for cancer patients and improves common malnutrition and cachexia conditions in patients.
In terms of thrombosis prevention and treatment, the department actively promotes the screening and prevention of tumor venous thrombosis.
In addition, the palliative care team also actively carries out psychological assessment of cancer patients.
The oncology nursing team is a "nursing high-quality demonstration ward" team. It holds regular patient education every month and participates in follow-up work for patients with pain, vomiting and other symptoms after discharge. Through unremitting efforts, the palliative diagnosis and treatment of medical oncology has developed rapidly.
"Disease is ruthless, but we have love." The medical oncology team of the General Hospital is united and forges ahead on the road of diagnosing and treating malignant tumors. It strives for excellence, accepts advanced treatment concepts with an open mind, and strives to provide patients with the best quality cancer diagnosis and treatment medical services, maximize the patient's survival time, and maximize the patient's comfort and quality of life.
