Dermatology Department

The Dermatology Department of Tianjin Medical University General Hospital was founded in 1948. After several generations of unremitting efforts, the dermatology team has continued to grow and has achieved outstanding results in medical treatment, teaching, scientific research and other aspects. The academic level has always maintained a leading position in the city. All previous chairmen of the Tianjin Society of Dermatology and Venereology are from the department.

Three of the previous department directors have served as deputy directors of the National Chinese Society of Dermatology and Venereology.

The department is the earliest training site for doctoral and master's degree students in dermatology and venereology in Tianjin. It currently has 1 doctoral supervisor and 7 master's supervisors, and has trained more than 100 doctoral and master's students over the years.

The Department of Dermatology has gone through 70 years and has become a large comprehensive department integrating dermatology, venereal disease, cosmetic dermatitis, medical cosmetology, dermatology surgery, fungi, and pathology. It has always been the academic leader in dermatology and venereology in Tianjin and occupies an important place in the country.

The department has advanced clinical diagnosis and treatment equipment, experimental testing and research equipment.

There are STD testing laboratories, cell culture rooms, fungi laboratories, cosmetic dermatitis laboratories, pathology laboratories, cosmetic laser treatment rooms, dermatology operating rooms, etc.

With an average annual outpatient volume of 150,000, it is a key discipline of Tianjin Medical University General Hospital.

The Department of Dermatology is a comprehensive department that integrates dermatology clinics, STD clinics, emergency departments, wards, and research institutes.

The department currently has 38 employees, including 24 physicians, 4 technicians, and 10 nurses. There are more than 10 experts with senior professional titles, including 6 chief physicians and 4 deputy chief physicians. 11 of them have a doctorate in medicine, and 9 have overseas study experience.

As the teaching hospital of Tianjin Medical University, the department is responsible for the teaching tasks of theoretical teaching, internship and apprenticeship of the seven-year international college, and has trained a large number of medical professionals.

The department has participated in the compilation of a number of dermatology and venereology textbooks, published a number of professional books, and undertaken a number of national, provincial, ministerial, school and college-level projects, including 9 National Natural Science Foundation projects, and has won a number of scientific research achievements.

Tianjin Institute of Sexually Transmitted Diseases was founded in 1994. It is an STD specialist institution integrating STD medical treatment, scientific research, teaching and education. It is one of the four STD training bases in the country and leads the country in clinical and research on Chlamydia trachomatis.

In 2001, the Ministry of Health approved the establishment of an AIDS confirmation laboratory in the department. Tianjin Medical University General Hospital became the third hospital in the country to have an AIDS confirmation laboratory. It is directly authorized and managed by the AIDS Reference Laboratory of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health.

The laboratory is adequately staffed and the gene amplification testing laboratory has an independent space and is decorated, configured and operated in strict accordance with the requirements. The materials are sufficient to ensure the normal and orderly operation of the laboratory.

In 2001, the Department of Dermatology and Venereology was approved by the State Food and Drug Administration to become one of the first six "drug clinical trial infrastructures" of the general hospital. Its establishment has improved the department's ability to conduct formal clinical drug trials and the department's influence.

Under the leadership of Professor Liu Quanzhong, he has participated in the completion of more than 30 global multi-center and domestic clinical drug observation trials of new drugs.

The department has complete clinical trial conditions and basic facilities. It has 18 beds capable of undertaking clinical trial requirements in this specialty. The average number of outpatient visits per month can reach more than 10,000. It has a wide range of clinical diseases and can meet the requirements of clinical trials.
