Obstetrics Department

The Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of Tianjin Medical University General Hospital is a large-scale secondary discipline that integrates medical care, teaching, scientific research, and prevention. It includes three tertiary disciplines of gynecology, obstetrics, and family planning, as well as the Tianjin Prenatal Diagnosis Center, the Tianjin Critical Care Maternity Rescue Center, and a medical institution approved by the Ministry of Health to carry out human assisted reproductive technology. It also has a gynecological tumor laboratory, a genetic laboratory, and a cervical lesion laboratory.

The department was founded in 1946 by Professor Yang Ke, a famous expert in obstetrics and gynecology in my country. After the joint efforts of five generations of department directors and obstetrics and gynecology medical staff, including Professors Yu Aifeng, Professor Jiao Shuzhu, Professor Zhang Shiwei, Professor Mi Ruoran, and Professor Yue Tianfu, under the current director of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Professor Xue Fengxia Under the leadership of the department, adhering to the department philosophy of “inheritance and development, unity and cooperation, love and dedication, and excellence”, it has continued to grow and develop, forming an obstetrics and gynecology diagnosis and treatment center with Tianjin as the center and radiating to North China and the three northeastern provinces, integrating medical treatment, teaching, scientific research and talent training.

The department currently has 151 beds;

There are 206 medical technicians in total, including 15 professors/chief physicians and 19 associate professors/deputy chief physicians;

89% of the medical technicians have a master's degree or above, and 38% have a doctoral degree.

At present, obstetrics and gynecology has formed several advantageous sub-specialties, among which gynecology includes sub-specialties of gynecological tumors, gynecological endocrinology, general gynecology, cervical lesions, and gynecological infections; obstetrics includes sub-specialties of physiological obstetrics and pathological obstetrics, as well as sub-specialties of reproductive medicine, family planning, genetics and prenatal diagnosis.

The various sub-specialties work together and complement each other. Relying on the comprehensive strength of the general hospital, they are responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of obstetrics and gynecological diseases in Tianjin and surrounding areas, even North China and some foreign-related personnel, as well as the diagnosis, treatment and rescue of difficult and critical patients;

The annual outpatient and emergency visits reach more than 200,000, and the annual operation volume is more than 6,500, making due contributions and achievements to Tianjin's female reproductive health.

Teaching work: The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the General Hospital is responsible for the teaching of obstetrics and gynecology for the eight-year clinical medicine major of Tianjin Medical University ("5+3" integration) and the international students of the International College, the training of doctoral and master's students, the standardized training tasks for residents and the training tasks for visiting physicians.

The department was approved by the State Council as a master's degree conferring site in 1981, a doctoral degree conferring site in 1984, and a postdoctoral mobile station in 1999;

In 2004, it was approved as a school-level key discipline of Tianjin Medical University. In 2009, it was approved as a standardized training base for residents in Tianjin. In 2014, it was approved as a school-level key clinical specialty of Tianjin Medical University and a national-level standardized training base for residents. In 2017, it was approved as a key discipline in colleges and universities of Tianjin Municipal Education Commission.

The department has 6 doctoral supervisors and 13 master's supervisors. It has trained 79 doctoral students and 286 master's students. The graduated doctoral and master's students have become academic leaders and young backbones of obstetrics and gynecology in Tianjin and the country.

In addition, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology has been approved by the Tianjin Medical University seven-year obstetrics and gynecology school-level quality courses, Tianjin Medical University quality English teaching courses for international students, and Tianjin English-taught brand courses for students studying in China. In 2017, it successfully held the "Ministry of Education English Teacher Training Center for Studying in China (Medicine) 12th Training Course", which has reserved excellent English-taught teachers for the medical education of international students in China;

The standardized training base for obstetrics and gynecology residents has been rated as an excellent base for standardized training of residents by the Tianjin Municipal Health Bureau for many times, and has provided a large number of qualified obstetricians and gynecologists to Tianjin.

Scientific research work: In response to the medical problems that have yet to be solved in clinical settings, the scientific research team of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the General Hospital actively explores and summarizes clinical treatment experience to provide support for improving the level of clinical diagnosis and treatment.

The team has conducted extensive research on the pathogenesis of endometrial cancer, drug resistance and prognostic factors of ovarian cancer, fertility-preserving treatment for gynecological cancer patients, the pathogenic bacteria, epidemiology, clinical characteristics of aerobic vaginitis and its association with adverse pregnancy outcomes, preeclampsia and coagulation disorders, etc.

Undertaken more than 130 scientific research projects at all levels, including 17 National Natural Science Foundation projects;

Published more than 300 papers in domestic and foreign journals, including more than 70 papers included in SCI;

Chief editor or co-editor of more than 30 medical monographs of various types;

Continuously participated in the compilation of the textbook "Obstetrics and Gynecology" for medical colleges and universities across the country, from the 1st to the 9th edition of five-year, seven-year, eight-year, postgraduate, junior college, and resident standardized training;

He won the first, second and third prizes of Tianjin Science and Technology Progress Award, the first prize of China Medical Science and Technology Award, the second prize of China Medical Science and Technology Award and many other scientific research and technology achievement awards.

Talent training and academic exchange: The department has a total of 17 people including Tianjin’s “131” second-level talents, “131” third-level talents, Tianjin Medical University General Hospital’s “New Century Talents”, and Tianjin Medical University General Hospital’s “Youth Technical Backbone”.

The team has 2 directors of national-level professional academic groups and 4 directors/presidents of municipal-level professional academic groups, all of whom are leaders in various sub-professional disciplines;

There are also many key doctors serving in various professional academic groups at the national and municipal levels.

In recent years, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the General Hospital has hosted and hosted many large-scale national and regional obstetrics and gynecology conferences, including the 2018 Chinese Medical Doctors Association Obstetrics and Gynecology Conference, the 14th National Family Planning Academic Annual Conference of the Chinese Medical Association, and the 1st/2nd/3rd National Scientific Forum on Obstetrics and Gynecology Diseases and Eugenics;

Academic annual meeting of Tianjin Medical Association Obstetricians and Gynecologists Branch, Tianjin Medical Association Family Planning Branch Academic Annual Meeting, Tianjin Medical Association Medical Genetics Branch Academic Annual Meeting, Tianjin Medical Doctor Association Reproductive Medicine Special Committee Academic Annual Meeting, Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Gynecological 3D Laparoscopic and Hysteroscopic Surgery Demonstration Seminar;

It has hosted 10 consecutive "Study Classes on New Progress in Diagnosis and Treatment of Female Reproductive Tract Infectious Diseases", 8 "National Series of Seminars on Gynecological Endocrinology Training Project", and 2 Hysteroscopy Hand-in-Hand Study Classes, etc. The influence of the discipline has been rapidly improved.
