Neurosurgery Department
Tianjin Medical University General Hospital
The Neurosurgery Department of Tianjin Medical University General Hospital was established in 1952. It is the first neurosurgery specialist unit in my country and the birthplace of neurosurgery in China. It has trained a large number of professional backbones for the establishment and development of neurosurgery across the country.
Over the past sixty years, with the joint efforts of several generations of neurosurgery experts and all colleagues, neurosurgery has created a glorious history, with many famous doctors emerging and growing continuously.
Now it is a neurosurgery center with national key disciplines, key clinical specialties of the Ministry of Health and key laboratories of the Ministry of Education.
Currently, there are 191 working medical and auxiliary professionals in the Department of Neurosurgery, 21 with senior professional titles and 12 with deputy senior professional titles.
As the first batch of neurosurgery master's degree authorization points, doctoral degree authorization points, and postdoctoral mobile workstations approved by the State Council, there are currently 9 doctoral supervisors, 13 master supervisors, 1 Yangtze River Scholar Distinguished Professor of the Ministry of Education, and a winner of the Tianjin Thousand Talents Plan 1, 2 Tianjin Distinguished Chair Professors and 4 Tianjin Medical University "211 Project" Distinguished Chair Professors. Many times have been awarded Tianjin's "Thousand Talents Plan", the National Ministry of Education's New Century Excellent Talents, the Ministry of Personnel's Hundreds of Thousands of Excellent Talents, and Tianjin's 131 first-level talents.
There are 267 professional beds, including an independent NICU ward and a dedicated operating room for neurosurgery.
The NICU ward is laid out in accordance with the internationally accepted NICU settings, divided into open areas and semi-open areas. Sub-hypothermic units, positive pressure wards and negative pressure wards have been built. 9 additional sets of Codman intracranial pressure monitors, cerebral oxygen monitors, electroencephalograms, and transcranial ultrasound have been purchased. Advanced equipment such as acoustic systems, cooling machines, ventilators and blood gas analyzers, combined with internationally advanced neuroimaging equipment such as PET, MR, DSA and C-arm X-ray machines, provide safety guarantees for patients with postoperative and critical central nervous system diseases.
The operating room is equipped with advanced equipment such as fluorescence contrast surgical microscope, neuronavigator, stereotaxic apparatus, neuroendoscope, electrophysiological monitor, high-speed drill, laser knife, electromagnetic knife, ultrasonic aspirator, intraoperative ultrasound, transcranial ultrasound Doppler, etc. It has established the most advanced hybrid operating room for intraoperative MRI, intraoperative angiography and intraoperative CT in the world, and built an advanced neurosurgery platform, which has greatly improved the conditions for neurosurgery and provided conditions for minimally invasive and precise treatment of neurosurgical diseases.
According to the anatomical parts or disease types of the central nervous system, it is divided into eight sub-specialties: brain trauma, glioma, pituitary tumor, cerebrovascular disease, spinal cord and spinal disease, skull base surgery, functional neurosurgery and NICU. It has strong technical force and its clinical diagnosis and treatment capabilities are at the leading domestic and internationally advanced levels.
It has a strong foundation in scientific research and currently has 12 basic research laboratories, 1 key laboratory of the Ministry of Education and world-class stem cell sorting and living cell structure observation platforms, ion conductivity microscopes and patch clamp platforms, 100-level purified cell culture room platforms, brain tissue banks, small animal hydraulic impact trauma models and neurological function observation platforms, etc.
Undertaken 3 international cooperation funds, more than 30 national "973", "Eleventh Five-Year" science and technology research plans and National Natural Fund projects.
It has more than 20 provincial and ministerial key or major fund projects, a research base of more than 5,400 square meters, and a total equipment value of nearly 40 million yuan.
As the most sophisticated discipline among clinical subspecialties, international academic exchange is a major feature of this discipline.
Not only has it established long-term cooperative relationships with many Japanese universities, but most of the doctors with middle-level seniority and above have experience of studying abroad. These backbones who have returned from their studies have gradually grown into a key force in the development of the discipline.
In 2004, the Tianjin Institute of Neurology established a long-term sister institute relationship with the Montreal Institute of Neurology in Canada. Canada established the Asia R&D Center of the Montreal Institute of Neurology in this discipline, and the two sides formulated a long-term training plan for young and middle-aged doctors.
In April 2005, Professor Yang Shuyuan was elected as the chairman of the Eurasian Academy of Neurosurgery. In 2007, as the chairman unit, he hosted the Eurasian Academy of Neurosurgery Conference in Tianjin. Nearly a hundred famous experts in neurosurgery from Europe and Asia attended the meeting, which greatly improved the academic reputation and academic influence of my country's neurosurgery and Tianjin's neurosurgery in the world.
In October 2011, as the organizer of the conference, the Department of Neurosurgery of Tianjin Medical University General Hospital successfully held the 10th National Neurosurgery Annual Conference, the largest among previous national neurosurgery academic conferences. This event was widely praised by the neurosurgery community, the media, and the medical community, and further consolidated the reputation of the department and Tianjin Neurosurgery. Through long-term exchanges of visits and exchanges with developed medical institutions across the country and even with foreign developed medical institutions, the Neurosurgery Department of Tianjin Medical University General Hospital has always mastered the cutting-edge information on the development of neurosurgery in the world today, and has kept in line with advanced foreign disciplines and not fallen behind, which has significantly improved the popularity of my country's neurosurgery and Tianjin's neurosurgery at home and abroad.
