The Cardiothoracic Surgery Department of Tianjin Medical University General Hospital was founded in 1946 and has a glorious history.

Since 1998, Professor Zhang Peng has served as the Director of Cardiothoracic Surgery and has made great progress in medical treatment, scientific research, teaching, and talent echelon training.

At present, the work is mainly carried out in the following five aspects:

1. Multidisciplinary Diagnosis and Treatment of Lung Cancer and Consultation Center for Difficult Chest Diseases: Multidisciplinary comprehensive diagnosis and treatment plans for lung cancer are regularly formulated. In 2016, the Tianjin Diagnosis and Treatment Center for Difficult Chest Diseases was established, and consultations are held every Monday and Wednesday morning.

2. Diagnosis and Treatment Center for Thymus Diseases and Related Autoimmune Diseases: The first to be established in the country in 2016, it leads the country in the diagnosis and treatment of thymus-related autoimmune diseases. It provides comprehensive treatment based on surgery and precise detection and treatment.

3. Esophageal Surgery: Taking advantage of the traditional advantages of comprehensive treatment of esophageal cancer, comprehensively carry out minimally invasive esophageal cancer treatment, Tianjin is a treatment center for benign esophageal diseases, and an important influential unit in the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease in the country.

4. Thoracic Enhanced Recovery Surgery: The unit that sets standards for accelerated recovery surgery treatment, has unique advantages in pre-rehabilitation, exercise cardiopulmonary function assessment, airway management, and perioperative nutritional support for patients with high-risk cardiopulmonary function.

5. Chest trauma: One of the chest trauma treatment centers in Tianjin, it has rich experience in the successful treatment of critical thoracic trauma and polytrauma.
