Hematology Department

The Department of Hematology of Tianjin Medical University General Hospital has been established for more than 60 years. It currently has 3 wards and 96 beds (including 16 laminar flow wards and 12 laminar flow beds). More than 2,500 patients are discharged annually, and the annual outpatient and emergency visits exceed 40,000.

The department currently has 115 medical and nursing technicians, including 52 doctors, 55 nurses, 8 technicians, 8 with senior professional titles, 16 with deputy senior professional titles, 3 doctoral supervisors, and 9 master's supervisors.

The department currently has laboratories such as cell morphology room, blood component separation room, blood cell immunology room, cytochemistry room, cytogenetics and biology room.

As a national clinical pharmacology base, the department has hosted and participated in a number of global multi-center and national drug clinical trials.

The department features basic research and clinical diagnosis and treatment of aplastic anemia (AA), myelodysplastic syndrome, paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH), multiple myeloma bone disease, and high-dose chemotherapy for acute leukemia.

Relying on the advantages of general hospitals and strengthening the multidisciplinary collaboration (MDT) diagnosis and treatment model, the hospital has successively established a comprehensive diagnosis and treatment center for multiple myeloma (MM) and a precision diagnosis and treatment center for myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) to provide more comprehensive, comprehensive, full-process and personalized diagnosis and treatment services for difficult and severe patients. It has also carried out autologous stem cell transplantation and targeted therapy for specific molecular abnormalities of various hematological tumors, as well as CAR-T cell immunotherapy.

In recent years, the department has received 1 National Science and Technology Support Plan (first cooperative unit) during the 11th Five-Year Plan, 16 National Natural Science Foundation projects, 1 Health Industry Research Project of the Ministry of Health (Collaborating Unit), 1 Chinese Medical Association Project (Collaborating Unit), 1 Chinese Medical Doctor Association Fund, 1 Tianjin Major Research Project during the Tenth Five-Year Plan, 8 Tianjin Natural Science Funds, 2 Tianjin Major Cancer Prevention Projects, and 2 Tianjin Health Bureau Research Projects.

He has won 3 second-class Tianjin Science and Technology Progress Awards, 1 third-class Tianjin Science and Technology Progress Award, and 2 first-class Tianjin Medical University Science and Technology Progress Awards.

It became a key discipline of Tianjin Medical University General Hospital in 2008, a key discipline of Tianjin Medical University in 2009, and a key clinical discipline of Tianjin Medical University in 2014. In 2016, it was awarded the "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan" comprehensive investment discipline construction project of Tianjin Medical University, and in 2018 it was rated as a key discipline of Tianjin.

Responsible for the teaching tasks of hematology courses for Tianjin Medical University’s undergraduate, master’s and doctoral students and international students, and has been awarded a number of departments responsible for the Ministry of Education’s quality courses for international students.

It has now become a comprehensive medical, teaching and research hematology diagnosis and treatment center in Tianjin.
