The Department of Respiratory Medicine of Tianjin Medical University General Hospital was founded in 1958. Under the leadership of five department directors, namely Guo Cang, Du Wenbin, Chen Guangjin, Chen Baoyuan and Cao Jie, the Department adheres to the core values ​​of "sharing breathing and passing on the fire". The Department of Respiratory Medicine of Tianjin Medical University General Hospital is the authorized point for doctoral and master's degree students of Tianjin Medical University. It has 4 doctoral supervisors and 6 master's supervisors. It graduates dozens of outstanding respiratory talents every year. It is also responsible for the International College, Clinical Medicine and Nursing School of Tianjin Medical University. It has many outstanding medical education workers and cultivates a large number of qualified medical talents for the society every year.

Currently, the Department of Respiratory Medicine has 72 open beds, including 20 respiratory critical illness (RICU) beds and 52 general beds.

It has 4 clinical laboratories: pulmonary function and respiratory physiology laboratory, respiratory endoscopy interventional laboratory, respiratory cytology laboratory, and sleep/respiratory treatment center.
