Gastrointestinal Department

Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital

The Gastrointestinal Surgery Department of Beijing Tsinghua Chang Gung Memorial Hospital is committed to building a clinical discipline with leading technology, distinctive characteristics, and industry-renowned clinical disciplines to relieve the pain of patients with complex and difficult gastrointestinal surgical diseases from all over the country.

Professor Li Yuanxin, leader of the gastrointestinal surgery discipline, studied under the famous Chinese surgeon, Academician Li Jieshou. As one of the core team members of Academician Li Jieshou, he has been engaged in clinical and research work on surgical treatment of intestinal dysfunction for a long time.

In 2010, the work "Treatment of Intestinal Dysfunction" led by Academician Li Jieshou won the first prize of the National Science and Technology Award. Professor Li Yuanxin also won this honor as one of the core members.

In the process of surgical treatment of diseases related to intestinal dysfunction, gastrointestinal surgery has gradually formed unique separation technology for severe abdominal adhesions (frozen abdominal and pelvic cavities), drainage technology for abdominal infection of intestinal fistulas, reconstruction technology for digestive tract and abdominal wall defects, difficult surgical technology for small intestine transplantation, and surgical nutrition support technology. Important technical means that can solve difficult and complex clinical problems have formed important technical features that are well-known in the industry for the treatment of diseases related to intestinal dysfunction - complex intestinal obstruction, enteroexternal fistula, chronic radiation enteritis, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, intractable constipation, abdominal tuberculosis, short bowel syndrome, small intestinal transplantation, etc.

The Gastrointestinal Surgery Department of Beijing Tsinghua Chang Gung Memorial Hospital is committed to developing precise and minimally invasive gastrointestinal laparoscopic surgery technology.

The development of gastrointestinal laparoscopy is positioned to be unique and highly difficult, and the types and difficulty of operations are at the advanced level in the industry.

Distinctive and technically complex laparoscopic total or subtotal colectomy techniques have been formed, including laparoscopic total colectomy + ileal pouch-anal anastomosis (IPAA) for the treatment of extensive colon polyposis or ulcerative colitis, and laparoscopic subtotal colectomy + side-to-side anastomosis of the posterior ascending colorectal wall (Jinling procedure) for the treatment of refractory constipation.

For colon cancer and rectal cancer, various laparoscopic radical surgeries for colon and rectal cancer can be completed with high quality. For some patients who are eligible to undergo radical radical surgery for rectal cancer or Jinling surgery, we will focus on developing NOSES surgery that removes specimens through natural orifices and does not require auxiliary incisions in the abdomen to maximize minimally invasive surgery;

For laparoscopic surgery for gastric cancer, focus on developing completely laparoscopic radical gastric cancer surgery;

Laparoscopic intestinal adhesiolysis is also an important technical feature. For some early tumors or benign lesions of the gastrointestinal tract, minimally invasive surgery involving laparoscopic and endoscopic combined resection is also carried out with the Department of Gastroenterology;

In addition, laparoscopic techniques also include surgical treatment of inguinal hernia, abdominal wall incisional hernia, parastomal hernia, bariatric and metabolic surgery, reflux esophagitis, and some emergency surgeries.

The Gastrointestinal Surgery Department of Beijing Tsinghua Chang Gung Memorial Hospital also undertakes the main work of the hospital's emergency surgery. Damage control surgical techniques and nutritional support techniques are important means to successfully treat critically ill patients in emergency surgeries.

In addition, the treatment of common diseases in anorectal surgery is also carried out.

The department has advanced surgical equipment such as intelligent surgical platform, high-definition 3D laparoscope, and ultrasonic scalpel.

Relying on Tsinghua University School of Medicine and learning from and developing the management model of Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taiwan, it has formed a distinctive disciplinary development direction marked by difficult clinical techniques for the surgical series treatment of intestinal dysfunction represented by small intestinal transplantation and standardized laparoscopic minimally invasive surgery for gastrointestinal tumors. It adheres to the development concept of "character first, minimally invasive leadership, and ethical practice of medicine", adheres to the scientific spirit of academic leadership and a work attitude of unity and cooperation, develops disciplines, cultivates talents, and benefits patients.
