Nephrology Department

The Department of Medicine at the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, West China Hospital, has been engaged in clinical research on kidney disease since the 1960s, making it one of the earliest units to conduct clinical research on kidney disease in China. For more than 40 years, under the leadership of renowned Chinese medicine expert Liang Afan, his undergraduate work in the field of medical pharmacology has highlighted Chinese medicine's characteristics, explored the advantages of Chinese medicine, proposed new ideas and methods for the diagnosis of many diseases of the liver, and improved the clinical treatment level of Chinese medicine. While highlighting the characteristics of Chinese medicine, this department timely tracks and studies the progress of modern medicine and biology, follows the principles of combination therapy for diseases such as chronic inflammation, acute myeloma, IGA syndrome, chronic myeloma, urinary tract infections, and more. Since the 1970s, blood dialysis, advanced dialysis equipment and high-level dialysis technology have been developed. In recent years we have also developed diagnostic techniques for kidney diseases such as peritoneal biopsy, diary dialysis, and more.
