Ophthalmology Department

The Department of Ophthalmology at Guangzhou Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences was founded in 1955, and is one of the earliest Chinese medicine, Chinese medicine combined with ophthalmology, research, teaching bases in China. There are currently 20 open beds, four senior doctors, one medical doctor, seven medical masters. Over the decades, ophthalmology has grown and expanded under the leadership of leading eye doctors such as Viju, Weiwen Guo, Liu, Dong Zhi, and others to become a nationally known specialty in Chinese medicine. Current ophthalmology has achieved significant results using innovative chronic eye disease diagnosis theory based on the legacy of old Chinese medical characteristics to treat haemorrhage and hydrophobic eye diseases. In the 1990s, the Department of Ophthalmology pioneered in the domestic development of hyaluronic ultrasound-lactating combined artificial crystal implantation, and today it is widely used for clinical applications.
