Integrative Medicine Department

Beijing Ditan Hospital Affiliated to Capital Medical University

Since its establishment more than 30 years ago, the Department of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine at Beijing Ditan Hospital Affiliated to Capital Medical University (Beijing Ditan Hospital) has trained and created a large number of experts in the prevention and control of infectious diseases with traditional Chinese and Western medicine, accumulated rich clinical experience in the treatment of infectious diseases with integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine, and made significant contributions to the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases through integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine in Beijing and even across the country.

In 2007, the department was expanded into the Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Center, becoming a key clinical unit that the hospital prioritizes for development.

Since its establishment, the center has undertaken a number of construction tasks. It is the construction unit of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine's key discipline of integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine for infectious diseases, the construction unit of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine's infectious disease clinical base, the construction unit of the Beijing Liver Disease Diagnosis and Treatment Center of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, and the preventive medicine teaching base of Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

The Center for Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine integrates clinical practice, teaching, and scientific research, and has an excellent talent echelon. It currently has 6 chief physicians, 2 deputy chief physicians, and 5 attending physicians, including three with doctorate degrees, six with master's degrees, seven supervisors of master's students, and one supervisor of doctoral students.

He has taken the lead and participated in a total of 5 major national infectious disease projects during the 11th Five-Year Plan and more than 10 Beijing municipal projects.

Won 1 second prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award and 1 second prize of Beijing Science and Technology Progress Award.

The Department of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine currently has 42 beds and treats acute and chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis, and liver cancer of various causes. It has accumulated rich experience in treating liver diseases with integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine during long-term clinical practice.

Special diagnosis and treatment diseases:

1. Integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine to treat viral hepatitis (hepatitis B, hepatitis C). my country is an area with a high incidence of chronic hepatitis B. Currently, there is no specific drug that can completely cure hepatitis B. In the past 10 years, antiviral treatment has significantly improved the quality of life of patients and delayed the progression of the disease. However, in There are also more and more problems arising in antiviral treatment, such as the side effects of interferon, drug-resistant mutations caused by nucleoside analogues, low e-antigen negative conversion rate of nucleoside analogues, the need for long-term medication, and rebound after drug withdrawal. A series of problems still plague the majority of hepatitis B patients.

The use of interferon combined with ribavirin in patients with chronic hepatitis C has achieved good clinical results. However, some patients, especially those with liver cirrhosis, have lost the opportunity to use interferon treatment and have difficulty controlling their disease.

The department adopts integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine treatment. On the basis of antiviral treatment, traditional Chinese medicine is used based on syndrome differentiation, which to a large extent has the effect of reducing toxicity and increasing effectiveness.

For patients who do not have the conditions for antiviral treatment, traditional Chinese medicine treatment can stabilize liver function, improve clinical symptoms, and delay disease progression.

2. Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine for the Treatment of Liver Cancer Liver cancer is highly malignant, difficult to treat, and has poor clinical prognosis. It has a high incidence rate in patients with chronic viral hepatitis and cirrhosis.

Anti-cancer treatment in the precancerous stage, recurrence prevention after tumor surgery, interventional, radiofrequency, radiotherapy and other treatments, and treatment of portal vein embolization of liver cancer are key treatments that affect the quality of life and prognosis of liver cancer patients.

Our department has carried out exploratory research on the integration of traditional Chinese and Western medicine in this field, and summarized mature treatment processes and experiences, which can provide reasonable, efficient and personalized traditional Chinese and Western medicine treatment plans for liver cancer patients.

3. Integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine to treat liver cirrhosis and its complications (refractory ascites, portal hypertension). Portal hypertension syndrome is an inevitable result of liver fibrosis and cirrhosis, and has a great impact on the quality of life and prognosis of patients.

Patients with severe portal hypertension will repeatedly develop various complications of liver cirrhosis, such as intractable ascites, upper gastrointestinal bleeding, hepatic encephalopathy, hepatic myelopathy, hepatorenal syndrome, etc.

The department fully absorbs the results of domestic traditional Chinese medicine anti-liver fibrosis experiments and clinical research, combines different causes of liver cirrhosis, and uses anti-fibrosis treatment with traditional Chinese medicine and Chinese patent medicines on the basis of anti-viral and other treatments to slow down the progression of liver fibrosis. Those who insist on treatment can reduce portal hypertension to varying degrees, reduce the frequency of complications of cirrhosis, and even reverse liver cirrhosis to a certain extent.

4. Integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine to treat severe hepatitis (liver failure): Severe hepatitis is a disease with a dangerous prognosis, and the mortality rate is as high as 50%-70%. Based on the comprehensive treatment of western medicine, our department has summarized more than 30 years of traditional Chinese medicine treatment experience and proposed the treatment ideas of clearing away heat and reducing dampness, cooling blood and detoxifying the organs, strengthening the spleen and replenishing qi to treat severe hepatitis liver failure.

During the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" period, our department participated in the major special project on infectious diseases of the Ministry of Science and Technology "Research on the Syndrome Patterns of Chronic Severe Hepatitis and Treatment Plans of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine". Integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine therapy has significantly improved the clinical efficacy and reduced the mortality rate of severe individual hepatitis.

5. Integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine to treat cholestatic hepatitis: Cholestatic hepatitis is characterized by long-term jaundice and difficulty in resolving the disease, and some patients are accompanied by severe skin itching.

There is currently no specific treatment, and some patients develop liver cell necrosis due to long-term cholestasis, leading to severe hepatitis and poor prognosis.

The department's application of Yudan Decoction to clear away heat, reduce dampness, cool blood and activate blood circulation has achieved good results.

6. Integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine to treat non-infectious liver diseases: In recent years, the incidence of non-infectious liver diseases such as drug-induced hepatitis, alcoholic hepatitis cirrhosis, metabolic liver diseases (hepatolenticular degeneration, etc.), autoimmune liver diseases (primary biliary cirrhosis, autoimmune hepatitis) has increased significantly.

Our department actively draws on domestic and foreign research experience, and based on syndrome differentiation and treatment, we propose treatment ideas such as cooling blood and detoxifying, strengthening the spleen, removing dampness and eliminating phlegm, soothing the liver and invigorating the spleen, expelling copper and dispelling wind, cooling blood and tonifying the bowels, etc. Based on syndrome differentiation and treatment, we have further improved clinical symptoms, improved clinical efficacy, and reduced toxic and side effects.
